You can't buy love...but you can rescue it!
PetConnect Rescue News - February 2018  Edition
Dear PetConnect Rescue Family,

It's February, the month of LOVE! We want to show some love to our amazing volunteers and donors with a huge shout out. The rescue work that we do here is endless. There are always more animals in need, and we try to respond whenever we can to urgent pleas. In order to do that, we rely on our dedicated volunteers.  We are so grateful to each and every one of you who helps us in our mission. We simply couldn't do it without you.

I also want to share some of the top PetConnect Rescue 2018 initiatives:
  • Expansion of our PCR Cat Team - We are happy to announce that Hillary Haag and Karen Helm (along with their large group of kitty fosters) will be bringing their talents to help us save more lives. These ladies are based in the Purcellville, VA area and have a wealth of experience. Many don't know this, but despite best efforts in animal welfare over the years, cats entering the shelter still have a very high euthanasia rate. PCR wants to do its part to help, and by growing our cat adoption program, we have set a goal to double our adoption numbers.
  • Enhanced volunteer engagement - Our fabulous volunteer coordinator, Kelly G., surveyed our volunteers to see how we can better utilize our volunteers to meet their needs and our needs. In the next few weeks, Team Leaders will be reaching out to respondents to gather more information and determine what roles would be a good fit. Didn't respond but still interested in getting involved? It's never too late. Just email [email protected] and we'll be in touch.
  • Creation of a new PetConnect Rescue Council - We are in the process of assembling a group of new and seasoned volunteers who will assist me in working to improve our existing programs, helping to create new programs, and working to advance the organization in the community. More information on the council will be provided in future newsletters
With warmest wishes,
Catherine Edwards

Take a look at the future of animal rescue...

Meet Ella G. She and her family adopted Bob last year, and since then, Ella and her sister have been some of PetConnect Rescue's biggest supporters. Last week, Ella turned 12 and decided to have a rescue-themed birthday party. She and her friends baked dog biscuits for our new rescues and created this PSA just for us. Happy Birthday, Ella, and thank you!

A Senior Dog's Chance to Shine

Meet Clark Kent. This sweet guy was a three pound, ten-year-old stray found wandering the streets. Hard to imagine how this little guy survived. His mouth was filled with rotten teeth, and he sat in the shelter for two months until he was pulled into PCR's Senior Dog Program. PetConnect Rescue knew that the first order of business was to get this guy healthy. Clark had to lose most of his teeth but he was finally able to eat again. He gained weight, got spruced up and ended up being adopted by  one of our very own Petconnect Rescue Board Members!

Just last week, Clark Kent, got a chance to show everyone how amazing senior dogs can be. He made a visit to a local assisted living facility and happily visited with everyone, bringing joy and smiles to all!

The lesson is so clear...at ten years old, Clark Kent still has so much love to give and life to live. He's a true spokesdog for all the seniors out there, demonstrating how our Senior Dog Program helps both dogs and people. We're so proud of you, Clark Kent!
