It's time for WABA's annual Bicyclists' Choice Awards. Last year, thanks to the best customers on the planet, Proteus won Best Bike Shop and Best Social Ride (Coffee Ride)! 
Nominations are being accepted through Monday 1/15/18. If we get through to the finals, we'll be asking for your vote next week. Thanks in advance!

Up Your Home Maintenance Game with 
Park Tool School at Proteus Bicycles!

Join us this winter at Proteus Bicycles for Park Tool School-- a bicycle repair and maintenance course designed specifically for the home mechanic.  We will provide hands-on instruction for brake and shifting adjustments, wheel repair, bearing adjustments, plus other topics and pro-tips that will keep your bike running smoothly.  The 7 week course will meet on Sunday nights from  6PM to 8PM  beginning on  January 21st .  Laura, our service manager, will be teaching the course, so register early (space is limited) and get ready to get your hands dirty!  (Don't worry, gloves are provided.)

The cost of the course is $350.00 and includes a copy of the Park Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair and Maintenance, as well as 10% off all tools purchased during the course.  Call the shop or email Laura at [email protected] with any questions.

We want you crazy people to ride everyday, 
so we have a super duper special just for you!

Just show us proof of your Freezing Saddles registration (or we can look it up when you come in) and we'll give you 50% off labor for any service - this includes tune ups, wheel builds, bottom bracket installation - you name it! For example, a performance tune, normally $160 is $80 and a standard tune, normally $90 is $45 for FS2018 riders.

*Freezing Saddles is a winter riding competition for bike riders in the general DC area, organized by random people who talk to each other on the Washington Area/ Bike Arlington Bike Forum. It runs from January 1 to the last day of winter with the idea of encouraging folks to ride all winter, even on the coldest days! Sign ups ended in December, so if you haven't signed up, you're out of luck for this year.

Sunday, 1/13 -- 9 -11am - Mountain Bike Ride

The weather turned cold sooner than expected so the weekly Fairland MTB ride is ON!  Rides are led by Laura our service manager (an experienced mountain and cx racer). Intermediate terrain. Mountain bike recommended (no road bikes or hybrids please). Helmet required. Meet in the back corner of the parking lot behind the Gardens Ice House (trail head) at Fariland Regional Park. Remember to dress for the very cold weather!

Monday 1/15, 10a-1pm - MLK Day Ride to the MLK Memorial

Monday MLK holiday ride to the MLK memorial. 10am PST (proteus standard time) departure. We'll head down the ART to Navy Yards, sneak up Maine to Hains Point, then return (probably) via the ART. Layer up for a start temp in the 20s. We'll stop along the way for frood;/bevs so bring a lock/cash/cc. Helmet required. Brett's leading this one so expect an intermediate pace (gotta move quickly to stay warm) and about 35-40 miles Round trip.

Thursday 1/18, 7-9 pm -- Pot Luck Supper
 
Join us for a shared Supper every Thursday from 7-9 pm. The shop is open late for all your bicycle needs. We will provide a main - You bring yourself, a friend, a side, dessert or a beverage.
