Led by Rebecca Katz, PhD, MPH, a team of global health experts worked with local health and regulatory officials to assess the health system's emergency management infrastructure and workforce capacity in the aftermath of Ebola.

As an NAI fellow, Georgetown Lombardi's Jeffrey Toretsky, MD, a pediatric oncologist and researcher, joins a prestigious group that includes Nobel laureates, university presidents, and recipients of the U.S. National Medal of Science.


A recent NIH policy change, championed by Kathryn Sandberg, PhD, has led to exciting new research at Georgetown that demonstrates the importance of studying differences between male and female cells, animals, and humans.


Studying preeclampsia helps scientists better understand blood pressure and kidney function in women and men. Renal physiologist Crystal West, PhD, studies how the kidney adapts during pregnancy.

Georgetown Lombardi's Jeffrey Toretsky, MD, Named a National Academy of Inventors Fellow
The National Academy of Inventors (NAI) has named Jeffrey Toretsky, MD, a pediatric oncologist and researcher at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, to its 2017 class of fellows.
Soy, Cruciferous Vegetables Associated with Fewer Common Side Effects of Breast Cancer Treatment
Consuming soy foods (such as soy milk, tofu and edamame) and cruciferous vegetables (such as cabbages, kale, collard greens, bok choy, Brussels sproutsand broccoli) may be associated with a reduction in common side effects of breast cancer treatment in breast cancer survivors, say a team of scientists led by Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
 




A paper published December 18 in Nature Geoscience by an international research team recommends an unconventional strategy to look for the possibility of life on Mars. While sedimentary rocks are commonly targeted by those searching for evidence of life on Mars, the article suggests that examining Martian hydrothermal and subsurface environments may be a far more effective approach.
