Face Painting and Celebrity Storytime!

Join WAKE Up and Read for a fun afternoon celebrating literacy and launching their 2019 Book Drive! Help us collect 110,000 books - enough to help build home libraries for every child at our 13 WAKE Up and Read elementary schools, and neighboring child care facilities and community centers.
Event highlights include story time with special celebrity readers, face painting, craft activities, and an appearance by Ruben the WAKE Up and Read Rooster.

Chika Gujarathi is the author and illustrator of the Hello Namaste! book series which teaches kids first words in Hindi and English! She lives in Raleigh with her husband and three little humans.

Garner Magnet HS Students

A group of young writers based at Garner Magnet High School recently published their first book. It explores their personal narrative through the genres of poetry, essays, letters, memoirs, and more. More importantly, their work explores their experiences as first generation and immigrant students in our community.
Books will be available for purchase at the event! All proceeds from the purchase of this book goes into a scholarship fund. Because the sales are handled by the kids so they get all the profits, cash is much appreciated.
