Experience The Grove!
A National Historic Landmark and Illinois Nature Preserve
Dear Friend of The Grove,

Don't miss your chance to see The Grove in winter; it is truly a wonderland! Spot deer and other wildlife on our trails then warm up in the Interpretive Center. We offer a variety of programs for visitors of all ages. Children can learn about bears or turtles, while adults may enjoy Dinner in the Kennicott House. Also, registration for summer camp is open. Take advantage of early bird registration for 10% savings until March 15th! Be sure to watch the slideshow below to see how much fun Grove campers have! Finally, Homeschool Week is back by popular demand; March 5-9. Hope to see you out on the trails soon!
The Grove bids a fond farewell to Kris Van Voorhis
Program Supervisor, Kris Van Voorhis, retired after 32 years at The Grove. Kris was instrumental in the development of both school and recreation programs, as well as special events, including the annual Arts and Craft Faire. Read on to hear more about Kris's accomplishments from Grove Director, Lorin Ottlinger!
Summer Camp at The Grove
Join us for a summer of fun exploring the outdoors! Little Acorns is perfect for ages 4-5, Outdoor Discovery Camp for grades K-1, and X-Treme X-Plorers for grades 2-7. New this year: camps are 6 weeks long! Summer Camp registration started January 11 for residents and begins January 22 for non-residents.
New Program! Kennicott Girls Club
This spring The Grove is offering an exciting new program for children in grades 2-6. Learn all about the Kennicott daughters and how they contributed to their brother's work as a naturalist and what their life was like, day to day, at The Grove in the 19th century.
Save the Date - Vintage Market
The 3rd annual Vintage Market is Saturday, May 12. Shop for Amazing vintage & repurposed treasures. Roam the grounds of The Grove and see over 60 vintage vendors plus food trucks & music. Tickets are $5 in advance or $8 at the door.
In the News!
The Park District Board voted in favor of placing a $17 million bond measure on the March 20 ballot. The proposal includes renovating the 44-year-old Glenview Ice Center, upgrading The Grove Interpretive Center, improving safety and access at The Grove entrance on Milwaukee, and creating a fund to purchase open space.
From the Archives
Read all about the last issue's mystery artifact- the sugar nipper! Thank you to all the readers who sent in a guess! Read on to see a new artifact. Can you correctly identify the item in the picture from the Kennicott House? Send your best guess and find out if you were right in the next issue of Leaf from The Grove.
Volunteer News and Opportunities
2017 was a banner year for volunteering at The Grove. Programs, special events, natural area restoration, etc. would not be as successful without the dedication of our volunteers. We will soon be looking for volunteers for our next special event, Vintage Market!
Air Station Prairie
Although it may be cold outside, the prairie is full of life and beauty. Yoga on the Prairie is a great way to start your New Year's resolution for a healthier lifestyle! Preschoolers and parents can learn more about raptors that can be found at the Air Station Prairie, or Take a Walk on the Wild Side and explore the trails at the prairie.
Thanks for Reading!
