Catholic Schools Week is celebrated by Catholic schools throughout the country and is taking place next week. St. Ambrose School is hosting two open houses: Sunday, January 28 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm, and on Wednesday, January 31, from 6:00-7:00 pm. Catholic Schools Week is a wonderful occasion to celebrate Catholic education and highlight what we do. Each day will be an appreciation of some aspect of our school: teachers, students, families, priests. Friday is Family Appreciation Day. In honor of this a family member may come and eat lunch with the students. It could be a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle. Lunch schedule is as follows:

K-2 11:25-11:55 am

3-5 12 noon-12:20 pm

6-8 12:25-12:45 pm

On Sunday, January 28, 2018, the Daughters of St. Paul will be in the school library with a collection of their books for sale. The book fair will be open from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Come and buy some good books to curl up with on these cold winter days. There will be multiple copies of each book so you can take the books you buy with you! There will be books for all ages.

Registration for the 2018-2019 school year has also begun. Please spread the work about our wonderful school where "You are known; you are loved." Please turn your re-registration forms in as soon as possible. Some of you have asked about tuition for next year. Pending approval by the parish Finance Council, this will be available by the end of this week.

SAVE THE DATE: Our annual gala will be held on March 3, with the theme of "A Lucky Knight" (think Irish!). This is our school's biggest fundraiser, but more importantly it is an event for community. Please plan to join us for an evening of fun, food and friendship. We are very grateful to Cindy Hollcraft for all her work on this event, but we can always use more volunteers to help make it even more special. Please contact the school office if you can give even a little bit of time. Thank you.

Students will make cards before Mass to leave in a basket in the vestibule for the priests: Fr. Fisher, Fr. Hayes, and Fr. Starzynski.

Author Takes Students into Space

Local author Lindsay C. Barry is coming to visit grades K - 3 and read her new picture book Journey to Constellation Station . It is a rhythmic story of an interstellar train ride that will whisk the reader into a special part of space - the magical Constellation Station.

She will present her book on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, from 10:00-11:00. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of her book, you can order it on Amazon or send in $10. She will have copies of the book with her. Checks should be made payable to Possibilities Publishing Company. She will be happy to sign any copies of the book that day. Father-Daughter Dance will be Saturday, February 10 from 6:30- 8 :30pm in the Parish Hall. The dance is for St. Ambrose students in Pre-K through 8th graders. For more information on the dance please see this flyer.

We are in need of volunteers for this event, including (but not limited to) a DJ, decorators, and people to clean up. We are also in need of donations. Concussions

A concussion is a brain injury that causes temporary changes in the way the brain works. You might think they happen when someone is knocked unconscious while playing sports. But concussions can happen with any head injury, often without a loss of consciousness.

We often hear about head injuries in athletes, but most concussions happen off the playing field - in car and bicycle accidents, in fights, and even minor falls.

About Concussions

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury. The brain is made of soft tissue and is cushioned by spinal fluid. It is encased in the hard, protective skull. The brain can move around inside the skull and even bang against it. If the brain bangs against the skull - for example, in a fall on a playground or a whiplash-type of injury - blood vessels can tear and the nerves inside the brain can be injured. These injuries can cause a concussion.

Anyone who has a head injury should be watched closely for signs of a concussion, even if the person feels OK. An undiagnosed concussion can put someone at risk for brain damage and even disability. So anyone who has any

symptom of a concussion should be seen right away by a doctor.

If you know of something interesting going on in our community, or want to give a shout out to someone at the school, I'd love to add it to the Buzz. I especially enjoy pictures. Please contact Mrs. Rowley to make sure that we have permission to publish pictures of every student in the picture. Pictures need to be less than 5MB. Submissions are due by Mondays at 5pm. It's very important that you get your submissions in on time, or I won't be able to get them in until the following week. Thanks so much!
