... however, it's still cold & flu season

H-F's nurses - Mrs. Parker (North) & Mrs. Kemp (South) - would like to remind the community that influenza (flu) is all around this time of year. In fact, the state of Illinois is currently No. 2 in the country for most reported cases of the flu. Your best defense - besides getting your flu immunization - is to wash your hands frequently with soap and water and to limit close contact with those exhibiting flu-like symptoms. People infected with flu may be able to infect others beginning one day before their symptoms develop and up to 7 days after becoming sick. If you get sick with flu-like symptoms, the Center for Disease Control recommends that you stay at home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone, except to get medical care or other necessities.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
On Jan. 17, H-F presented the 3rd Annual Pursuing the Dream, an event dedicated to celebrating Black History and encouraging unity. Attendees enjoyed special performances (H-F Dance Team, Percussion students, Inspirational Voices, H-F Speech Team) and speakers, including
keynote speaker  Andre Hughes (at left). Mr. Hughes, founder of Powered by Action and a retired global managing partner of Accenture, shared the story of the Good Samaritan, as Dr. King had done during his final speech in 1968. He  encouraged students to give everyone the opportunity to help them along their journeys. Other speakers included Femi Adigun, H-F '13; Mrs. Brumfield, H-F instructional assistant; Mr. Allie, H-F Social Science teacher; Mr. Jones, social worker; and Principal Dr. Jerry Lee Anderson. The event was organized by Mr. Booth, H-F dean, and Mrs. Brown, H-F World Language teacher. Click here to see more pictures from the event...
