Cabin Fever? Get Out of the House and Come Join Us!
There's no reason to get cabin fever this January! The PA has these reasons for you to get out of the house:

Join the DCD Book Club for a lively discussion of the novel  Manhattan Beach  by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jennifer Egan on Monday, January 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Herrick House.

On Wednesday, January 10, at 8:15 (after drop-off), come to an informal DCD coffee at the Dedham Square Coffee House, 565 High Street in Dedham.

On Monday, January 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Herrick House, join us for an evening of knitting and conversation. All levels welcome. Yarn, needles, and refreshments will be supplied.
Strategic Planning Discussion for New Families
Earlier this fall, DCD launched the next phase of a strategic planning process that was begun in 2015-16. The process is designed to establish key priorities that will guide the school's evolution over the next five years, and we hope to include all voices from our community in the discussions.  Families who are new to DCD since this first phase of this process was launched are invited to  join us for a conversation on  Wednesday, January 10, 6:00 p.m. at the Hale House. The meeting will include background information about strategic planning and a discussion of the key issues facing DCD as we look to the future. Please contact Kylie Lacerda if you are able to attend.

Strategic Planning Resources for All
Any member of the DCD community who is interested in learning more about the ongoing strategic planning process is welcome to visit the Strategic Planning Resource page on the DCD website. After you log in, navigate to "Resources" and then click on the Strategic Planning tile to see a variety of materials. The site will be updated regularly, so visit often! Got Milk?

Did you know that DCD serves only 1% or fat-free milk with no added growth hormones?

That's right, the cows that produce our milk do not receive hormone injections!

Healthier cows = healthier kids.

A snow crystal is a letter from the sky."
The Story of Snow Ukichiro Nakaya, Japanese scientist (1900-1962)

Nakaya's quote shouldn't be missed on the back endpaper of  The Story of Snow. Authors Mark Cassino and Jon Nelson have written a book that will inspire young scientists and artists. Just as the authors coordinated their talents,  The Story of Snow: The Science of Winter's Wonder has a fine balance of text and pictures. Cassino's photographs of snow crystals are clearly explained by Nelson's text.

The Story of Snow is a perfect companion book to  Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin, the 1999 Caldecott Award Winner. Wilson A. Bentley was the first to photograph snowflakes to study their beauty and construction. Imagine the conversations that Bentley would have with Mark Cassino and Jon Nelson. While the technology has improved, they all would share the wonder of a snowflake. ...
