President Message - Jack Mercica
|
Fellow MVRC members,
This morning January 15th, I proudly displayed on my doorstep our American Flag in honor of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I think it is a good day to take stock and see where we are in accomplishing the vision that this gentleman brought to our culture. When I consider this I reflect on the election of our first semi-black President in 2008 and then again in 2012. I consider how race relations have taken more than a few steps backward as a result of his policies and slipshod administration. I don't remember racial tensions being so prevalent before his election. I was happy that things were on a great road of improvement since the earlier days of the 50s and 60s. I am reminded of Mr. King's prophetic words that "A man should be judged not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character". There was more than enough evidence to indict that President on his offensive and immoral character. Consider his known associations and his adamant promotion for late term abortions.
And yet our own fellow Americans dismissed his immoral character as irrelevant and judged him only by the color of his skin, and his glib proficiency at elegant speeches from his teleprompter. Despite their ignorance of the facts, that was absolutely not a tribute to the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Rather it was an insult. There were many black leaders both men and women at the time who would have made a wonderful choice as our 1st black President. People of great character and impeccable civility.

Bob Lindsey Candidate For
Los Angeles County Sheriff
The community needs a Sheriff with a mindset to lead the Sheriff's Department in a manner that builds trust, confidence and that creates a will to perform because performance really matters. An environment needs to be established where Deputies desire to come to work and embrace the community in the same manner that they are embraced by management. I will give unending and unparalleled attention to the communities of Los Angeles County and to our beloved sworn and professional staff of the Sheriff's Department. I will bring back a solid relationship, and morale. I will build a Department not fractured by mistrust in management and I promise to be faithful to the communities we serve and the deputies who serve them.

Andrew Kotyuk is a conservative reformer running for State Assembly. A successful businessman and Navy veteran, he's served on the San Jacinto City Council since 2010, where he's also served twice as mayor.
Andrew joined the City Council in the aftermath of the indictment of four councilmembers. He oversaw a forensic audit that helped steer the City back to firm financial footing, eliminating a $4.5 million deficit and was instrumental in reforming the City's underfunded pension system, requiring government employees to contribute to their own retirement for the first time and protecting taxpayers from the pension crisis that's impacted so many other cities in California.

From My Prospective - Carolyn Gonzales

Welcome Home
One never knows when God will send to us a message, an inspiration, or a validation. Last week, He did just that, in a chance meeting of an Army Combat Veteran, a Marine Veteran and me.
As I waited to be called into the lab for a bone density test, the Army Combat Veteran, arrived and sat a few chairs from me. I noticed his hat, and smiled as I thought of how my husband proudly, yet humbly wears his Navy Hat.
Preparing to leave, I again noticed the Vietnam Veteran, and for some reason, felt compelled to say a few words, acknowledging his service. We spoke briefly about the Vietnam War, and in our conversation, he mentioned the awkward moment he experiences when someone says, "Thank you for your service". He said, "I never know exactly how to respond; "you're welcome" does not seem appropriate, it seems empty, yet, I don't know what else to say."
