The Wave
January 5, 2018
A great return to school.  We took it easily, had some fun and worked together in families today to set SMART goals (specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic, and time-limited).  We have all written personal goals that we will open in June 2018! We believe that Goals are dreams with deadlines.  With that in mind, we launch into our best learning month of the year.  We are looking forward to all we have planned ahead!

Thank you for your continued support!

I hope you will join me for a tea on January 17th @ 3:15 - 4:00.  I would love to spend some time with you!

February Lunch Orders

Hot lunch orders for February are due by January 17th. As usual, we cannot accept late orders due to deadlines with Fresh n' Local. We have really enjoyed providing these healthy, wholesome, WARM meals over the winter months. Feedback from students has been positive and we are loading the menu with favorites. If you haven't ordered yet this school year, what are you waiting for? You can view the lunch menus for each month on our website. Here is the February order info. Remember, we have a minimum we have to meet in order to make this program continue at TRCS, so order now!
You're Invited to Tea!

Come and have tea with Katherine and the TRCS Staff!

January 17th @ 3:15 - 4:00 PM.

We would love to have you join us and have some time to share our work and update you on coming events. We hope that you will be able to join us.  We think that it would be a great time to start the 2018 year with the TRCS! Students are welcome to stay in the library during this time, working or reading quietly.
TRCS Goes Swimming

January 16-19th we will be traveling in 2 groups to the N. Clackamas Aquatic Center. The staff there has an amazing program that the kids really love.  Obstacle Courses, Water Polo, Water Basketball, Relay Races and of course, our favorite - wave pool and slides. See our school schedule for the week.  Please check your child's swimsuit and make sure it still fits. This is the time for a modest, one piece suit, or one that is meant for swimming (not sunning). We can only accept signed doctor notes for not joining in the fun!  Please bring a suit, clean towel, and a plastic bag for wet items to school each day. The pool has extra suits if the kids forget, but that certainly is no fun!

8th Grade Baby Pictures

Calling all 8th graders to turn in a baby picture for the yearbook!  This is such a wonderful way to immortalize your very special 8th grader, as they move forward in their educational career. Look at how far they have come! Please send the picture (we can scan & return to you) with student's name written lightly on the back - or email an image to Ms. T or Ms. Pellico. Pictures are due by February 2nd!

SCRIP Reminder

Now that we are in 2018, we thought you might want a quick reminder on how Scrip works at TRCS. You have TWO options to earn money for our week at Outdoor School (March 5th-9th).
1. Turn in a paper order and a check. Orders are due Tuesdays by 10 and we get your order back to you that same week!
2. Get the Benefit Mobile app and order from your smart phone!
Ms. B's Rocks

We have received about 5 pictures of her rocks.  Have you gone somewhere and left a rock in her name?  We would like to post these pictures, bringing the world of travel back to our kids.  Can you please send a picture back to the [email protected] so that we can print and add to our map of Ms. B's travels? Thank you so much.

Study Skills 4/5th Grades

During Study Skills this month, our 4/5th graders will be working on a unit on internet safety. There will be 5 lessons and then an application that they will practice what they have learned. We will cover:
 * Think critically and evaluate online sources.
* Protect themselves from online threats, including bullies and scams.
* Get smart about sharing: what, when, and with whom.
* Be kind and respectful toward other people and their privacy.
* Ask for help from a parent or other adult with tricky situations.

Midterms are Coming

We will be marking the midterm by freezing any grade entries into Chalk from January 16 - 21. This means that you kids can check in with their teachers at any time during or before this week, to discuss grades, missing assignments or with other any questions. We hope that you will encourage them to join us in conversation as we pause in grading to give them a chance to look and see how they feel about their accomplishments. Chalk will be back in action January 22!

Important Calendar Update

UPDATE: Wednesday, January 31st is now a no student day. This is a needed planning day for our teachers!!!

NOTE: February 1 & 2 are also planning times for teachers. No students on these days.

Our staff needs the time to bring Independent Projects and Outdoor School to life, along with planning all the other term 3 classes.  We are going to need to add one In-service day to the end of the month. Please find the attached calendar that has the days corrected.  We will be using each day, here at school planing the last term of our school year.

Thank you for your help in giving the staff the time for planning.
