The City of Pierre Recreation Department is offering several Seasoned Citizen Programs for Citizens 50 and over. We have partnered with the Pierre Senior Center to offer the programming to their members free.

Better Moms Make A Better World! The First United Methodist Church (MOPS) group is inviting you to take a night off from cooking! A portion of the proceeds from any dine-in, carry-out, or delivery order during the hours of 5pm and 8pm will help out the local FUMC MOPS group.

It's Back to Business!
 
Join the Pierre Area businesses and organizations in welcoming lawmakers in town for the 2018 Legislative session.
 
The evening will start with a social at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The Legislative Welcome has a long standing tradition of being the first official event of the session, giving our community a chance to roll out the red carpet and help legislators connect with your peers.

This class enhances parenting skill for parents or caregivers of children 3 years of age and up. Learn how to reduce family stress, diminish yelling and fighting, reduce problem behavior and enrich you relationship with your child. Betsey DeLoache of Pierre will discuss her newest book, "Country Schools: Past and Present Volume 2" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at the Cultural Heritage Center. For the past five years, Betsey has interviewed former students and teachers of rural schools, visited rural schools in session and drew pictures of some of the schools. In Volume 2, she included additional schools not in Volume 1 and shared the reason a few of the families came to settle in South Dakota. Everyone is welcome to attend the free program. Copies of the books are available at the Heritage Stores at the Cultural Heritage Center and the Capitol.

All moms and their supporters are welcome to attend this class to learn the basics of breastfeeding that will assist mom and baby to become successful at breastfeeding.
Topics include: benefits of breastfeeding, common problems, collecting and storing milk, and return to work or school. Pre-registration is required. Scholarships are available. To register call or go online.

Topics covered include: Warning signs and progression of Labor, relaxation techniques, comfort and pain management, newborn care.
Practices of Avera St. Mary's Women's Center Childbirth Class is a 1-session class held on one Saturday each quarter at Avera St. Mary's Hospital Cafeteria Conference Room from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
