PRESIDENT  MEIER  BAUER

The Joy of Joy

We are aware that scientists can determine the age of tree by by noting the growth rings.   Leonardo da Vinci is credited with first mentioning that trees form rings each year and that the thickness of each ring is determined by the conditions of the year.

What would it be like if people were like trees and we could see the effects of the outside conditions on them?

The members and leaders of your chapter are effected by their life circumstances, our educators are effected by both their life circumstances and their professional circumstances.  And yes, our students are effected by the conditions around them.

Care, concern, and joy can nourish as nothing else can.
Members, leaders, educators, and certainly students need that care, concern, and joy.   We all have the power and time to provide care, concern, and nourishing joy.

Choose joy to nourish those around you and yourself.

Meier

EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Debby Canter, Educational Excellence Chair
Alpha Delta State Educational Excellence Committee:
Providing assistance to children in Ohio's Foster Care System (EEC Goals 1,2,3)

Imagine being awakened in the middle of the night and being told to grab just a few things in your bedroom and load them into a garbage bag. This happens every day to children all across our country.  For most of them, this is through no fault of their own. Many things can occur in their homes to warrant this intrusion and confusion. Most of the time it is due to neglect at the hands of their parents. Someone, whether it be a neighbor, a teacher, or another relative, makes the call out of concern for a child's safety.  Even if it is needed, it causes embarrassment and fear.

What can we do as members of Alpha Delta State?
>>The first step is awareness <<

  • We need to have conversations at our chapter meetings.
  • Next, come to a consensus as to the plan of action at the local level.

Providing duffel bags, toiletry items or a stuffed animal can ease the pain of a confused and hurting child even though this seems like a small gesture.

PLEASE SHARE your chapter's contribution to the foster care children in your area in upcoming issues of The Voice by sending to Debby Canter at [email protected]  or at this year's ADS convention in the chapter showcase.

The Convention Schedule and Registration was sent by Constant Contact and was posted on the Alpha Delta State website in early February.  Immediately registrations began to arrive and we are still looking for yours if your haven't yet sent it in by U.S. Mail, electronically, or using PayPal.

Since the schedule and registration went out,
we  have been informed that

Sharing....the Big Picture!

Many of you have asked for advice on how to support/build chapter vitality and how to encourage chapter programs that emphasize membership. Below are several links I feel you will find helpful as well as useful in developing your current membership activities.

I am delighted to announce that the "Pride in the Big Picture" orientation is now available in webinar. The following link can be used during your recruitment plans and endeavors to share Delta Kappa Gamma with prospective new members.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuMrI016diA&feature=youtu.be

Also, DKG has a reorientation video, "Sustaining Pride in the Big Picture," which is divided into four parts/components, with each segment being approximately 15 minutes in length. These can be useful for chapter program/s, either as a whole or as a continuing four-part series. The presentations can be accessed by signing into the DKG website (to sign-in, you will need your DKG ID number....for the username and dkg2014society....for the password)....once signed in click on the Resources Tab in the top banner....in the drop-down box you will see the word Presentations....click on that link to access either the "Sustaining Pride in the Big Picture" PowerPoint presentation or the videos.

I encourage all chapter presidents and membership chairs (and yes....chapter members too) to be responsible in taking the necessary time to preview what the above resources offer for membership recruitment and sustainability.

Let's share, with others, the/our bigger picture!

Welcome to Alpha Delta State!

LET'S  COMMUNICATE!

Does your chapter have a Facebook page?

Let's work together to BOOST your chapter's reach!

There are number of chapters in Ohio who have chosen to create a Facebook page.
This is great for reaching your chapter members.

However, there may be occasions that you might want your reach to extend to the entire state. Some of those occasions may even be a proclamation of great things going on in your chapter.

How can this be accomplished?
First, send your chapter's Facebook URL to webmaster Eileen:

The ADS Facebook account will "like" and "follow" your chapter's Facebook page. In turn, the person in charge of your Facebook page should "like" and "follow" the ADS Facebook page.

Everyone wins!
The new and greatly improved DKG app is here. This app will quickly become your "go-to" source for information from International. Description and download information is available HERE.
