Dr. Ryan Carstens named ENMU-Ruidoso President
Eastern New Mexico University-Ruidoso's College
Board unanimously recommended Dr. D. Ryan Carstens be named the president of ENMU-Ruidoso at their meeting on Dec. 20.
ENMU President Dr. Jeff Elwell concurred and Carstens accepted the position. He will begin Jan. 15; a Welcome Reception will be held Jan. 22 at ENMU-Ruidoso (5:30 to 7 p.m.)
"ENMU is an innovative institution, and I am honored to be joining the ENMU family in Ruidoso," Carstens said. "I look forward to working with ENMU-Ruidoso, our board of trustees and our local community leaders to envision a bright future for our community members, and to work with our university system and the state to sustain and promote the educational opportunities that will connect us to that future."
Carstens holds an Ed.D. in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin, a masters in curriculum and instruction and a bachelors in German with a minor in social studies, both from Oklahoma State University. He is also a graduate of the Executive Leadership Institute from the League for Innovation in the Community College.
President Dr. Clayton Alred, who has held the position since December 2009, will be retiring in January. A reception for Dr. Alred will be held on Jan. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hotel Elegante, Ruidoso.
