"Titanic - Exhibit Opening"
RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning hours of 15 April 1912, after it collided with an iceberg during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. There were an estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard the ship, and more than 1,500 died, making it one of the deadliest commercial peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. The RMS Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time it entered service. Come see our Titanic exhibit with stories of the crew, passengers, and the ship. Join us on opening day March 3rd for a 1912 Titanic tea party.

"Commemoration in the Wake of Catastrophe: Remembering the Forgotten Casualties of the St. Francis Dam Disaster"
Archaeologist, Anne Stansell, shares her research findings on why this man-made dam disaster has been largely forgotten on a state and national level, but tenuously remembered within the flood-zone.
This exhibit covers more than a century of time and provides a look into some of America's dreadful dam disasters, the impact on the lives of those affected, and the lessons learned through investigative research and retrospective evaluations.

Maritime Museum of San Diego, with an international reputation for excellence in restoring, maintaining, and operating historic vessels, announces new day sail adventure dates aboard San Salvador, a replica of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's ship that arrived at the port we now call San Diego on September 28, 1542.
These 4-hour Sailing Adventures are for people who love history and sailing. Very few people have sailed aboard galleons of the 16th century. Our day sails will offer the public a chance to be aboard the magnificent galleon, San Salvador. No sailing experience required. San Salvador has sailed to Oxnard, Monterey, Morro Bay, Channel Islands, Santa Barbara, and San Pedro as part of her multi-year Pacific Heritage Tour.

"Second Saturday Program:
The History of Early Los Angeles"
Bolton Hall Museum's March 10th Second Saturday program traces the history of Los Angeles from its founding as a pueblo of 44 people in 1781 through California's statehood in 1850 and explores factors allowing the small pueblo to become the city of over 4 million that it is today.
Our program presenters Bruce Phillips, EdD and Katy Phillips, MS, are both native Californians and retired educators. They are members of the Los Angelitas del Pueblo and lead tours of the historic El Pueblo de Los Angeles. Bruce is the immediate past president of Los Angelitas and Katy served on the Board recently as Director of Education.
This program is free and open to the public and everyone is welcome.

"Meet Marge"
Marge Villa, born in Montebello, California in 1924, started playing professional
softball at the age 13 for the Orange County Lionettes. After WWII in 1946, Marge received a letter and was asked to play for the Kenosha Comets of the All-American
Girls Professional Baseball League. She played for five years with the Comets, being
used as a catcher, second base, and shortstop.
On June 9, 1946, Villa made history when she drove in nine runs and collected
eleven total bases in a contest, setting two single-game league records.
She was popular with the fans and she became know as "Poncho." Marge would travel to Cuba
for spring training and with other AAGPBL teams, traveled to Central and South
America.
After she retired in 1950, she became a champion golfer at the Hacienda
Golf Club. In 1988, Marge was honored as part of Women in Baseball, a permanent display
based at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.
In 1992 she was an adviser for the movie, "A League Of Their Own."
Come and meet Marge, talk baseball, and she will sign free autographs.

Just before midnight on March 12, 1928, the St. Francis Dam collapsed. The collapse was one of our country's worst man-made disasters of the 20th century. Over 12 billion gallons of water and debris rushed the length of the Santa Clara Valley, damaging homes and crops and killing at least 450 people. On March 17, 2018, the City of Fillmore will remember this disaster.

"Wind And Water: Sailing In San Diego Photography Exhibit"
Maritime Museum of San Diego, home to one of the world's finest collections of historic vessels, from sail to steam to submarine, announces the
opening of Wind & Water: Sailing in San Diego. The Museum is proud to introduce this rare new photographic collection of historic, classic, and wooden yachts racing and sailing in San Diego. The exhibit includes an impressive body of work to amaze and inspire visitors about sailing and San Diego Bay -- from America's Cup to historic Museum vessels, to traditional
wooden boats sailed for recreation on the waterfront.
The exhibit opens Sunday, March 4 in the Star of India Hold Gallery and is included with general admission. Star of India is the world's oldest active sailing ship and one of 10 historic vessels guests explore with admission to the Maritime Museum of San Diego.
In the new exhibit Wind & Water: Sailing in San Diego, images from international yachting and nautical sport photographer, Bobby Grieser, are paired with photographs from his close sailing and photography master and friend, Mark Albertazzi. Dr. Raymond Ashley, Ph.D., K.C.I., President/CEO of the Maritime Museum of San Diego, describes Wind & Water: Sailing in San Diego as "a passionate example for both sailing and photography fostered by a deep friendship with two of the industry's most renowned nautical photographers."
The collection features scenes of classic yachts and historic sailboats captured on the waters of San Diego.

iscover the man behind the legend as the most comprehensive exhibition of Genghis Khan and his treasures invades the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, its only Southern California stop on an international tour that has drawn more than a million visitors.
Opening on February 16, 2018, the start of the Mongolian New Year, this special exhibition presents a more complete image of the legendary leader whom Time Magazine and CNN named "The Man of the Millennium." As the exhibit strikingly portrays, Genghis's reputation as the greatest conqueror is well-deserved. He dominated three times more land in his lifetime than either Julius Caesar or Alexander the Great, a conquest attested to by the formidable array of swords, bows, arrows, saddles, and armor included on display in Genghis Khan. In fact, the historic exhibition showcases hundreds of artifacts from Genghis's 13th century Empire, the largest such collection ever to tour.
However, as visitors discover, Genghis not only created the nation of Mongolia and its written language, but his lineage established the modern borders of nations from India to Iran, Korea to China; and opened the trade routes that united East and West forever after.
Curated and developed by dinosaur expert Don Lessem, the exhibition features more than 200 spectacular objects on display, including rare and sophisticated weapons, costumes, jewels, ornaments, instruments, and numerous other fascinating relics and elaborate artifacts from 13th-century Mongolia. The exhibition features loans by private collectors from Mongolia, Azerbaijian, and the United States.

"Setting the Scene: Hollywood Animators and Background Painters in the Santa Paula Civic Collection"
The Santa Paula Art Museum has gone Hollywood with its current exhibition, Setting the Scene: Hollywood Animators and Background Painters in the Santa Paula Civic Collection. The exhibit features fine art paintings from the famous Santa Paula Civic Collection by artists who worked behind-the-scenes at Disney, MGM, Warner Bros., and 20th Century Fox during the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Since the 1930s, film and animation studios have played a leading role in the lives of many California artists and have been influential in the development of what is recognized as the "California Style." Nowhere is this more evident than within the Santa Paula Civic Collection, a historic collection of artworks established in 1937 and owned by the City of Santa Paula. Setting the Scene displays some of the best works from Santa Paula's collection. While the art on exhibit was not created for the movies, it includes personal works by Disney background painters like Al Dempster, Basil Davidovich, and Charles Payzant, who lent their talents to animated features such as Fantasia, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty. The exhibit also stars artists like George Gibson, once head of MGM's scenic design department and lead scenic artist for The Wizard of Oz; and Emil Kosa, Jr., who designed the original 20th Century Fox logo and won an Academy Award in 1964 for his work on Cleopatra.
The colorful exhibition explores the relationship between the artists' fine art paintings and their commercial work for film. Viewers can learn more about the history of painting in motion pictures, the process of creating an animated feature, special effects, and the people behind some of the most iconic movie scenes ever filmed.
Visitors to the exhibit are also invited to write or illustrate a scene from their own story to add to a community-made storyboard. Setting the Scene is on view through June 17, 2018.

Camp Roberts Museum
"New Military Exhibits"
Camp Roberts opened as the U.S. Army's largest basic training installation in mid-1941, just prior to us entering World War II. For the last 30 years, the volunteers at the Camp Roberts Historical Museum have been preserving and relating the camp's long and important role in our nation's defense, through WWII and the Korean War, and up to its current role as the main training site for the California Army National Guard. The camp also hosts training units from all the other US military components, regular and reserve, as well as those from allied nations.
There are always new museum exhibits for guests to enjoy. Since the big expansion of the large Afghanistan Exhibit, museum volunteers have completed an Army field mess exhibit, a Vietnam era field hospital exhibit, and are building a new exhibit on helicopter training close to their Cobra attack helicopter. They are also hard at work on expanding and upgrading the large picnic and event center at the Main Museum. It is the largest Army museum complex in California and the state's official military museum. Enjoy the Museum's featured history video, research library, gift shop, and the Wall of Fame (icluding Robert Mitchum, Steve Allen, Bob Newhart, Red Skelton, and William Holden).

"Citroën: The Man, The Marque, The Mystique"
Come experience a sampling from one of the most innovative French automobile manufacturers of the 20th century, Citroën! These fascinating automobiles encompassed technology way ahead of their time, in futuristic bodies. Come enjoy some of the best examples built by this marque in a retrospective exhibit at the Mullin Automotive Museum.

Pleasant Valley Historical Society Museum
"Hello! -- Antique Phones Exhibit & Silent Auction"
Bill Doctorman, who recently died at the age of 89, had an extensive collection of historic phones. He willed his collection to the Pleasant Valley Historical Society (PVHS). Receipts found for phones that were purchased in his home state of Illinois indicate that he had been accumulating them for most of his lifetime.
The PVHS museum currently has about 100 phones on display from the late 1880s through the 1980s. Included are the wooden (usually oak) farm phones of various styles through the candlestick and art deco phones. It is fascinating to see how creative American manufacturers could be. The exhibit also includes European phones that illustrate the standardization of style throughout the world.
The Museum received over 200 phones from the Doctorman legacy and will be having a silent auction offering the excess to the community. Stop by to see this unusual exhibit which includes a display for young children to experience "dialing" a telephone.

The Camarillo Ranch
"House Tours"
Step back in time and visit the home of Adolfo Camarillo, known in Ventura County as "the Last Spanish Don." Visitors to the Camarillo Ranch can tour all 15 rooms of the beautifully restored 1892 Queen Anne Victorian home, explore the many gardens and the massive root system of the towering Moreton Bay Fig Tree, and see the original 1905 Mule Barn, and the 1964 Stables that housed the famous Camarillo White Horses.
Tours of the Victorian home are available on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, 12pm - 3pm.
Group Tours for 8 or more people must be scheduled in advance.

"The Vietnam War"
The Vietnam War was the second-longest war in United States history, after the war in Afghanistan.
Commitments to the people and government of South Vietnam to keep communist forces from overtaking them reached back into the Truman Administration. Eisenhower placed military advisers and CIA operatives in Vietnam, and John F. Kennedy sent American soldiers to Vietnam. Lyndon Johnson ordered the first real combat by American troops, and Richard Nixon concluded the war.
Despite the decades of resolve, billions and billions of dollars, nearly 60,000 American lives and many more injuries, the United States failed to achieve its objectives. Learn about Montebello's Reggie J. Rodriguez who made the ultimate sacrifice and is honored by having a city park named after him.

Pleasant Valley Historical Society & Museum
Free: "Allis-Chalmers WD Row Crop Tractor"
The Pleasant Valley Historical Society & Museum has received a working tractor to be part of their permanent display. Lou Oliver of Camarillo, a member of the Topa Flywheelers Tractor Club, has given his fully restored 1952 Allis-Chalmers WD row crop tractor to the Museum.
"Allis," as she is called, was purchased new in 1952 from Power Tractor by the Tanaka Bros. Farms. She worked well and hard for over forty years. She was restored by Leonard Oliver and brought back to Camarillo in 2006 by Lou. On a bright, sunny morning in late November, members from PVHS met at a ranch in the Las Posas Valley where Allis was stored. She started right up and drove onto the flatbed that took her to the Museum where she now resides. Plans are underway to build a protective home in keeping with her history.
