That's why Delta Dental of Colorado has introduced
Right Start 4 Kids
(RS4K), an innovative plan design enhancement that removes most of the cost barriers to dental care by providing coverage for children up to their 13th birthday at 100%, with no deductible, when in-network providers are seen.* If an out-of-network provider is seen, the adult coinsurance levels will apply. Orthodontic services are available but are not eligible for the RS4K 100% coverage level.

The Value of Stand-Alone Dental Plans
At the end of 2016, 249 million Americans had dental insurance, of which the overwhelming majority had dental coverage separate from their medical coverage. Stand-alone plans are typically offered by companies like Delta Dental of Colorado, that specialize in dental care and have separate deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums are not affected by medical coverage.
Stand-alone plans are designed to address preventive and predictable oral health needs by:
- Encouraging regular use of preventative dental care by the inclusion of certain services (check-ups, cleanings, exams, etc.) generally covered at 100%.
- Offering lower deductibles to reduce the cost barrier of addressing a dental problem before it becomes a larger issue.
- Elevating the importance of routine oral health maintenance by distinguishing oral care from traditional medical care, which has a fundamentally different nature of care.
- Including a coverage cap to control costs of dental insurance from year to year.
- Having a typical 100/80/50 benefit structure serves the needs of patients, while also encouraging personal participation in maintaining good oral health.
