Principal's Letter

Dear All Saints Families,

In a recent article from Pope Francis, he lists twelve ways to make the most out of 2018 ( https://aleteia.org/2018/01/07/12-new-years-resolutions-for-12-months-from-pope-francis/) These twelve items seem so pointed, but so often forgotten by us all.  I think they are wonderful ways to live life to the fullest.  In our busy lives I know our best intentions are often pushed to the back.  However, share them with your children so we may all work together to make the earth a better place.  I share them with you for reflection:
  1. Build bridges, not walls
  2. Let yourself be moved by suffering...and then do something
  3. Don't be afraid to be ashamed of yourself and recognize when you've done wrong
  4. Dream of love
  5. Avoid attachment to riches
  6. Pray daily for your health and that of your loved ones
  7. Be strong in faith so as to overcome division
  8. Work hard for your dignity and that of your family
  9. Don't let yourself be robbed of hope
  10. Remember that God never abandons us
  11. Find happiness by creating harmony
  12. Know that you are loved, so that you can give love and forgiveness
Recently, on social media we shared a link about parental blocks that are easy to use and protect your child from inappropriate material, unwanted contact through social media, and general safety for your child.  I cannot repeat how important it is for parents to constantly check their child's phone, computers, and iPads.  I have heard from countless parents that children are doing things on their phones that is shocking.  Please never make the mistake and be naive that your child would never do this.  Our children are just that - children.  They make mistakes and sometimes it is so difficult to stop communication once they begin among friends or strangers.  I still check my youngest daughter's phone who is now a sophomore in college.  She knows I must be aware of all her passwords and I check all her social media accounts.  Not only do I want to know what she is doing at college, but I want to understand the type of young adult I am raising by the tone, vocabulary, and recipients of her emails, texts, and social media accounts.  My children also know my account information and there is an openness to all we do.   I am never secretive or ashamed of any of my accounts.  I try to live what I preach to my children.  Life is so difficult and as parents, we must be super vigilant of what our children are doing at all times.  I challenge every single parent this evening to check their child's phone.  Put blocks and boundaries on these devices.  The worst thing a parent can ever say in hindsight is "I wish I had..."

Report cards were mailed home last Friday.  We send home report cards for the first and third quarters and mail them home at the end of the second and fourth quarters (end of semesters).  Further academically, this week we begin our second MAP's testing session.  Please ensure your child is well rested and comes to school with a good breakfast that contains proteins.  We are working hard to get testing done in the next two weeks.  We will be working on reports and inform you of our informational night to go over the tests.

We are now focused on marketing items for next year's registration. On Wednesday, January 17th we are at the Gardens Mall participating in the 2018 School Expo through Macaroni Kid.  This Friday is our Open House to allow for all interested families to tour our school and get information first hand.  We are excited to open our doors to potential new families.  We are happy to spread the good works of our school.  However, we are well aware word of mouth is still the best marketing.  We thank all our families who talk to friends and neighbors about the great things we do All Saints.

Yours in Christ,
Mrs. Jill Broz
