Stations of the Cross Services

The Stations of the Cross is a liturgical way to reenact Jesus' journey as a meditation and an act of devotion.  In remembering, we are making our own journey.

Saint Patrick's offers two evenings to share this journey:

Friday,  March 2, 6:00 PMThe artists present a visual representation of the stations that gives us insight into the process    A book of this year's stations will be available at this service. It contains a picture of each station  as well as a write-up of the station by the artist.

Friday, March 23, 6:00 PMThe Family Stations offer a reenactment of Jesus' last week beginning with Passover. We use costumes and actors to tell the story as we  move around the church. Both stations are  appropriate  for all ages, however, our youngest members might enjoy this evening better.

Lenten Speaker: The Rev. Mary Demmler

$7100 has been given so far toward our $15k goal. We are so grateful for the support of both walkers and donors alike!  We are still accepting donations (can you cut and paste the link from last week?).  Since the rain was a factor, some of our faithful decided to do a mini-Hunger Walk at Brook Run to honor the commitment to walk,  but protect our walkers from too much rain!  Others decided to brave the rain and join the throng downtown! All told, it was a successful day and we continue to be cheered by your support.

Vestry Retreat

Most of Vestry were able to attend our Work Weekend up at Camp Hinton SC.  Wow, what a beautiful spot as you can see from the photos.

We shared Evening and Morning prayer, Compline and Eucharist together as well as a lodge kitchen cooked meal and a campfire. Such great opportunities to continue to bond and gel with old and new team members and think about what Spiritual leadership means to us as members of St Patrick's Vestry....... A gift and a privilege.

On Saturday We were led so capably by Kathy Malcolm Hall through the Myers Briggs Type  Indicator, a tool some of us had experienced in the workplace or at the College of Congregational development. The result of our work was a better understanding of ourselves as well as how we and others take in information and make decisions about it. This has already led to 'aha' moments for many as we communicated more clearly, appreciated each others gifts better and sought to share the work effectively.

We also worked on one of our key areas of focus for this year, Sabbath and Succession planning........expect to hear more!

Sunday morning hosted a fruitful Vestry meeting and Eucharist before heading home.

Lenten Speaker Series: Water in a Dry and Weary Land

Join us for our Lenten series, "Water in a Dry and Weary Land", as we hear from different  voices about their journeys of creating a way or rule of life that sustains and  refreshes them, in times that are dry and weary.

Here's the Thursday Evening schedule:

Meal at 6 p.m.
All-Hands Clean-Up at 6:40 p.m.
Programs run from 7-8 p.m.

Thursday, March 1
Guest Presenter: The Rev. Spenser D. Simrill

The Rev. Spenser D. Simrill has served congregations in Louisville, Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Minneapolis. He and his wife, Stuart, lived at Koinonia Farm as Habitat for Humanity was birthed there (1974-1978). He currently serves as Chaplain to Canterbury Court, an Episcopal Retirement Center. He also is a member of The Beloved Community to Dismantle Racism in the Diocese of Atlanta.

The compassion, hospitality, and grace of Jesus Christ for ALL humanity with purpose, meaning and call motivates him. Dancing in the Spirit, (there is no problem that dancing can't solve) being present with the hopes and struggles of the world in community, believing that "faith is turning dreams into deeds" and "betting one's life on unseen realities" are life giving practices for him.

He is blessed with four children, two grandchildren (twins) and a grandbaby boy due March 1. Thanks be to God!

Thursday, March 8

Her passion is helping others to come to know that all are beloved children of God.

Prior to the priesthood, Mother Bonnie was an executive for ADP, a Fortune 500 company, for over 20 years, and also served in the United States Marine  Corps for 12 years, both as an enlisted Marine and an officer. On Sunday, March 18, both services will include a time for those who have agreed to increase their commitment to the operating budget (and those making first-time pledges this year) to offer pledge cards during the liturgy.  We will have a reception, with an Irish flair, following the  10:30 to service.  Join us on  March 18 for a deep drink at this Lenten oasis as we celebrate what God is doing among us here at St. Patrick's.
