Lovejoy High School

A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 01 22 18

P arents and Guardians,

I hope you enjoyed the warmer temperatures this weekend. Admittedly, I like it when we have cooler weather, but it was a nice change to be able to go outside without a coat.

This past weekend, many of you had the chance to see the LISD performance of The Sound of Music. I attended on Thursday night and again had the opportunity to witness the tremendous talent and great work of our LISD students, directors, and parents. Congratulations to everyone who performed, built sets, worked with the sound and lighting, drove kids to practice, or had any other part in putting on the show. It was truly awesome!

Please take a few moments to read below about some of the other great things our students are doing. There is also information regarding important dates and events coming up in the near future. Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

Varsity Men:  We had 10 men wrestle in this very large event, with 32-man brackets and teams from 4 different states.  Once again, freshman Ralph Rucker showed he is going to be a force to reckon with for a long time, making his third finals and finishing with the silver medal.  Rucker completed the day with 4 wins, three by fall!  Sophomore Hunter Duncan wrestled well also, winning his first three matches, but fell one match short of the medal rounds.  Sophomore Joe Ridgeway also wrestled well and completed his tournament with 2 wins.

Dual vs. Creekview 1/18:

Supporting LHS Students through Senior Project Judging
It is difficult to believe how quickly the school year is flying by. At the high school, this means that some LHS Seniors are nearing the time for their Senior Project Presentations.

Senior Project is an exciting part of every LHS senior's experience as they explore topics of their choice and share what they learn with members of the community. There are different components of the project including creating a proposal, writing an annotated bibliography, and completing an activity. As the culminating event of their Senior Project, students give an 8-10 minute presentation about their experience to a panel of adult volunteer judges. These judges score students on their presentation skills and give them feedback designed to help them in their future pursuits.

We want to extend to you the invitation to share in this experience as a Senior Project Judge. Presentations will take place at Lovejoy High School on February 13th and March 7th. Presentations begin at 6:30 p.m. and should conclude by 8:30 p.m. at the latest. Judges training begins at 5:30 p.m. for those who have never judged Senior Project presentations. Those who judged in past years may arrive at 6 p.m. A light meal is served each night.
