It is with great appreciation that I reflect on 2017 as a year of positive growth for FAB. I am delighted by the growing support of our members, Visionary Fund donors and other arts supporters who embrace our mission. The old adage it takes a village couldnt be truer for FAB. Because of many individuals and businesses, FAB reached its highest level of membership, met its fundraising goal for the Visionary Fund, orchestrated wellreceived member events and fostered 26 arts programs. For 2018, we are poised for continued success. The FAB Board remains dedicated and soon we will surpass the $3 million mark in granting support for deserving art organizations. As always, we value your love of the arts and we will remain your trusted stewards to inspire and motivate quality arts programming for all to enjoy. HAVING A VISIONThe FAB! Visionary Fund, created in 2016, is an asset to the organizations growth and development. We recently celebrated 2017 Visionary Fund donors, who gave in excess of $500, with an exclusive yacht cruise aboard The Bottom Line. Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception while cruising the scenic waterways of South Florida. We thank FAB Treasurer Karla Nickell and Bill Mahoney for this opportunity to acknowledge our donors. Our commitment remains that 100% of membership dues go directly to grants, but we still need your help! The Visionary Fund allows members and non-members to offer additional support. All new and increased gifts to the Visionary Fund will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000 by the Horvitz Family Foundation. Learn more about the FAB Visionary Fund at fundingartsbroward.org.
MEASURE BY MEASURESpring is in the air! FAB! is poised to present its Spring Luncheon and Annual Meeting on Tues., March 13 from 11:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. at Broward Center for the Performing Arts Mary N. Porter Riverview Ballroom. As part of this arts celebration, special guest presenter Brett Karlin, Artistic Director and Conductor of Master Chorale of South Florida, will present Measure by Measure, a guided tour of classical music and Broadway favorites. Karlin prepares and leads 120 singers through choral-orchestral masterworks for collaborative performances with other artists and ensembles. He holds a Master of Music from University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Arts in Voice from Florida State University. This season he will prepare an ensemble to sing with world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli. Originally founded in 2003, the Chorale is thriving under Karlin and communicates the transformative and unifying power of choral music by performing a rich and varied repertoire. From Beethoven to Broadway, Bach to Bernstein, the Master Chorale of South Florida performs works by the full range of beloved classical and contemporary composers, along with some lighter fare. The Master Chorale is a highly select, auditioned ensemble comprised of singers from Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. Luncheon tickets are $55. Member benefits include exclusive access to events and programs to showcase a variety of arts interests. Two such opportunities are now coming soon to the Broward Center for Performing Arts:
Saturday, March 17, 2018 Members and one guest are invited to an exclusive technical rehearsal of One Line Drawn as part of Program Three of the Miami City Ballet. This new, adventurous work is conceived and choreographed by Brian Brooks, the inaugural Choreographer in Residence at Chicagos Harris Theater for Music and Dance, with a commissioned score by Michael Gordon, an American composer and co-founder of Bang on a Can.
Members and a guest can enjoy an exclusive package to experience the Broadway hit, Waitress. A lunch and backstage tour, followed by a matinee performance, are all a part of the opportunity. Inspired by Adrienne Shellys beloved film, WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the towns new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life. Members can watch for emailed invitations coming soon. IN THE SPOTLIGHT
