Mrs. Keogh recommends Smoot: A Rebellious Shadow by Michelle Cuevas
Move over Peter Pan and Robert Louis Stevenson! There is a new shadow in town that is stirring up fun and anarchy!
In the story, Smoot the shadow and his boy do the same things day after day. This has gone on for 7 ½ years. The boy is content with this boring existence but Smoot wants MORE. He dreams in technicolor of wild deeds and dances.
One day Smoot gets unstuck from the boy and hits the road. More shadows see him and are influenced by his capering, fun filled antics. They too set themselves free to play the opposites of their staid owners. Anarchy is set loose and fun reigns supreme, but by the end of the story the shadows have returned to their owners and their innermost wishes have been granted.
In a final chorus of exuberance, Smoot and his boy go wild together and realize that they can learn from each other. For fans of Peter Brown's book Mr. Tiger Goes Wild, we can all enjoy Smoot and his boy.
