As we look back on 2017, we have reason to be optimistic. Activity is higher than it's been since the end of the recession. We opened the Kentucky Innovation Station for entrepreneurs and co-workers and even landed a Nashville accounting firm to establish its first 10 employees there. We received a $1 million grant to fund the development during 2018 of Kentucky Movers and Makers, a facility that allows access to machinery and facilities that would otherwise be unavailable to most people.
The old Goodyear Building was sold and Webstaurant Store is deciding the size of its expansion there. Ahlstrom is investing $30 million in its new facility, protecting nearly 150 jobs and adding a handful more, many of whom will be going through the Kentucky FAME program. The Madisonville Spec Building was finally sold after 14 years to Alliance Coal, which will improve it and locate some jobs there to manage their equipment and do shop work.
The Helicopter School is on track to open in early 2018, hopefully bringing many new students to the area, with most being veterans straight out of the military. Hopkins County has always prided itself on how well it embraces veterans and this is a golden opportunity for the community to showcase itself as one of the best places in the country for veterans to live and work.
I could go on and on, but I want to close by thanking all the many community members that have collaborated with us, helped us and supported us as we work hard to lead the community to prosperity in this and every year. IDEAS
If you think the pace of change in the workplace has been fast lately, hold onto your hat. A new report published by Dell Technologies says things are about to get a lot faster. So fast, in fact, that 85 per cent of the jobs that will exist in 2030 haven't even been invented yet, estimates the report, which was authored by the Institute for the Future (IFTF) and a panel of 20 tech, business and academic experts from around the world.
That means the students in Hopkins County Schools and students all over the world will be creating technologies of the future. To help spur creativity in the students in Hopkins County, we are excited to host the Second Annual Idea Competition for students from 9-12th Grade. The goal is to engage more students within Hopkins County to adapt an entrepreneurial mindset. It also allows students the opportunity to bring their ideas to life and solve problems.

Eric Nance Woehler
Eric Nance Woehler is a writer and editor who helps companies and other organizations discern and develop their key messages. He wrote news, business and sports articles for newspapers in Kentucky and Indiana for about five years after studying journalism at Western Kentucky University; he has been a full-time freelancer since 1998. He has written about basketball, church, diseases, air conditioners, pop singers and public-education reform, but most of the entities that he works with are high-tech companies or professional organizations.

We are two best friends born and raised in Madisonville, KY with a passion for event planning! We have worked with other companies decorating and coordinating weddings, and other events - this is what helped us to realize event planning is the field we are lead to be in! After falling in love with our job, we took a leap of faith and opened an event planning business of our own.
Our job is to make sure our clients events run smoothly and to take the stress of planning off our clients. Therefore, we can help plan (from the small event details to finding vendors), coordinate from the beginning of planning to the day of the event, and/or decorate! We've decorated multiple events; from weddings, to showers, to simply decorating houses for the holidays. We are up to trying new things and we would LOVE to be a part of your next event!
