STATE OF THE SCHOOL

Thursday, January 25th at 6pm, the State of the School presentation will be held in the 
Louise  R. Moorer Center for the Performing Arts. (University campus  auditorium )

It has been such a great year for St. Luke's school, we look forward to everyone coming out to learn about the growth of the school and what is in store over the next year. 
Congratulations!!

On January 9th, The Volleyball team was recognized at Government Plaza by Mayor Stimpson, John Williams and the City Council, for their outstanding season and accomplishment as  2-time State Champions.

Congratulations to Jermaine Brown

Jermaine was chosen by AL.com and The Call News 
as the Coastal Alabama Player of the Year, Call News Player of the Year and All-State as an athlete. 

On January 30th, Jermaine will attend the  ASWA Player of the Year Banquet, where he is a finalist for: 2a Back of the Year.



Much deserved honor for this talented young man. 

BioMed Cyber Mission

Students Provide Medical Services While Aboard a Mercy Medical Ship

High schoolers encountered many illnesses and diseases while participating  in this live simulated medical mission along the Amazon River in Brazil.

On January 16th, 40 of our Biomedical Health Science students became emergency medical specialists while participating in a live simulation conducted through web/video-conferencing. Students worked together in teams to solve medical cases presented to them by their "Chief Medical Officer" located in the Challenger Learning Center® on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia. During the 90-minute mission students were part of a remote emergency trauma unit on a National Institutes of Health mercy ship traveling up the Amazon River. The fictional ship was equipped with high-tech hospital equipment and medical research capabilities.


This intense and immersive learning experience took place on our Middle and Upper School Campus.  The CyberSurgeons TM simulation provided an authentic representation of a real mercy mission that allowed the students to apply science knowledge and skills. The mission curriculum is based on national and state science standards related to human body systems and the disease process. Each team worked together to move the fictional patients through the health care process. They took on the roles of Diagnostic Specialists, Clinical Interventionists, Medical/Surgical Specialists and Case Managers. The responsibilities included:
  • Receiving, reviewing and documenting medical chart
  • Making initial diagnoses, ordering lab and imaging tests
  • Reviewing test results, making differential diagnoses when appropriate
  • Creating a treatment plan
  • Referring for clinical trials when indicated

High-Q Match

The Upper School High-Q team hosted and won their first match this morning. St. Luke's was the top scorer with 41 points! Followed by Theodore with 28 points and Baker with 27 points.

January 16th, the cranes came in with our new field lights. The installation crew worked all day, fighting the weather, to get the lights up before the Wednesday storm moved in.

League of Creative Kindness (L.O.C.K.)

Ms. Strope's L.O.C.K. middle schoolers performed acts of service in honor of Martin Luther King Day.  

Some of the deeds that were performed were:  volunteering to care for an elderly neighbor's cat, donating tab tops to the Ronald McDonald House, helping staff transport nursing home patients, taking coffee, creamer and sugar to the Salvation Army homeless shelter, bathing the family dog, picking up trash and even bringing potted plants inside  from the cold.   There are tons more, and this is just a sampling of what our sweet kiddos did to give back  on such a special day.


6th and 8th grade middle schoolers who performed acts of service in honor of Dr. King:

Bella Dumas- took coffee and hot chocolate to occupants of the Salvation Army
Libby Burge- assembled goodie bags to prepare for Dental Health Month
Audrey Smith- helped transport patients at Allen Health and Rehab
Ruby Gardner- donated tab tops to Ronald McDonald House
Chloe Yates- picked up trash around her neighborhood
Emily Miles- bathed her dog and washed dishes
Bryce Deupree- brought in plants so they wouldn't freeze
Cammie Waite- fed the cat of an elderly neighbor who was out of town
Jack Wheeler- cleaned his grandparents' house and put away Christmas decorations
Reagan Warner- took food and medicine to a family sick with the flu
Parker Breal- did laundry and unloaded the dishwasher
Hayden Breal-  made a pancake breakfast for his family
Allie Champagne- picked up trash around her neighborhood
Hannah Uptigrove- made breakfast for her mother
Chloe Watts- helped her wheelchair-bound grandfather grocery shop and put away his groceries
Kasey Hernandez-Sexton- manned a water station at the First Light Marathon
Ricky Hernandez-Sexton- manned a water station at the First Light Marathon

YDL Announcements:

  • Kiddie Cat  basketball will begin Sunday, January 21. Parents will receive information regarding the season via GroupMe.  
  • YDL (3-6) Soccer practice will begin after registration closes and teams have been notified. Saturday games begin Feb 3rd - March 24th.
