Animal Law Section
Join Alan Edmonds, the high-energy force behind Animal Protection of New Mexico's animal cruelty hotline at noon, April 27, at the State Bar Center for an Animal Talk covering an overview of a 2008 report that was produced by DPS to the Consumer and Public Affairs Committee as a result of House Memorial 19, current statutes and ordonnances in N.M. addressing tethering and a comparison of N.M. laws to other states, and efforts in community education on dog behavior, outreach and alternatives to tethering.

Appellate Practice Section Luncheon
Join the Appellate Practice Section for a brown bag lunch at noon, May 18, at the State Bar Center with guest Judge Daniel Gallegos of the New Mexico Court of Appeals. The lunch is informal and is intended to create an opportunity for appellate practitioners to learn more about the work of the Court. BBC to Make Appointment to the ABA House of Delegates
The Board of Bar Commissioners will make one appointment to the American Bar Association House of Delegates for a two-year term, which will expire at the conclusion of the 2020 ABA Annual Meeting. The delegate must be willing to attend meetings or otherwise complete his/her term and responsibilities without reimbursement or compensation from the State Bar. However, the ABA provides reimbursement for expenses to attend the ABA mid-year meetings. Members who want to serve on the board must be a current ABA member in good standing and should send a letter of interest and brief résumé by May 4 to Kris Becker at [email protected] or fax to 505-828-3765.

Judicial Standards Commission
The Board of Bar Commissioners will make one appointment to the Judicial Standards Commission for a four-year term. The time commitment for service on this Commission is substantial and the workload is voluminous. For full description of requirements click here. Seeking Nominations for the 2018 Annual Awards
Nominations are being accepted for the 2018 State Bar of New Mexico Annual Awards to recognize those who have distinguished themselves or who have made exemplary contributions to the State Bar or legal profession in 2017 or 2018. The awards will be presented during the 2018 Annual Meeting Aug. 9-11 at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort, Santa Ana Pueblo. The deadline for nominations is June 1. Wrangling with the Reframes of ADR Practice

Gina McCarthy, Former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator
Public Talk With Engaging Interactive Q&A on April 25, at 5:45-7 p.m. at the UNM School of Law in the Forum. McCarthy, led the EPA from 2013 to 2017, during a period that included passage of the federal Climate Action Plan, the Clean Power Plan and the Paris Climate Agreement. She will address sustainability, world health and climate change. The talk is free and open to the public, but attendees must register here online in advance.

The Southwest Women's Law Center presents a live webinar from noon-1 p.m., April 27, that will
