Grandparenthood in the U.S.

A new series of family profiles (FP-18-03, FP-18-04, and FP-18-05) provides a detailed portrait of grandparenthood in the United States. The profiles draw on data from the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), the only large-scale, nationally representative data that provides information about grandparents who live with their grandchildren as well as those whose grandchildren live separately. In 2014, approximately 62 million - nearly three-fifths of adults aged 50 and older - were grandparents (FP-18-03).
