UPDATE - Follow-Up to Special Session
Having heard concerns about separate gatherings for lay and clergy following the Special Session of General Conference as well as concerns about the distance that some individuals would have to travel, Upper New York leadership has decided to replace the clergy gathering and the six regional gatherings with a single event that will be held remotely in all 12 districts.

Mark your calendars now for this Conference-wide time of worship, sharing, questions, and prayer. The Conference-wide event will take place on March 17 from 4-6 p.m.

Exact district locations will be shared as soon as they are available.

Upper New York Area Resident Bishop Mark J. Webb has recorded a special message for the members of the Upper New York Conference following the Special Session of General Conference.  Click here  to hear his message.
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME - MARCH 10
Don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour
on Saturday night  or you'll be late for church!
NEW - Four Ways to Observe Lent
(from UM Communications)
Friday fish fries. No chocolate. Join a new Bible study.

All these practices have benefits. And all are common Lenten practices. They hint at ways the season of Lent can lead us into more disciplined, focused lives. With that in mind, we offer some other practices that hit at the heart of Lent and excite our spiritual lives.

Lent is the period of 40 days leading up to Easter (note: Sundays don't count). It is a time of preparation and focus, reminiscent of Jesus' time in the wilderness before he started his public ministry (See Mark 1, Matthew 4, or Luke 4). We believe that Jesus went to the wilderness to set aside the distractions of normal, "worldly" life and focus on God and God's will for him. So we attempt to do the same during Lent--though often on a slightly less stringent scale.

So check out these four ways you can "enter the wilderness" this Lenten season and find some focus, too:

EQ Members Needed!
It's that time of year again when we ask for Equalization Members to attend Annual Conference (June 5-8 at the Oncenter in Syracuse). These are lay people who can vote to help balance (equalize) the clergy who are voting.

Our District has been asked to recruit 27 Equalization Members. Among our EQ members should be:
  • Youth between the ages of 12 & 17 (Youth are not charged for registration or hotel if they stay in the assigned block of rooms for youth)
  • Young adults between the ages of 18 & 30
  • Certified Lay Ministers (CLM) and Lay Supply Pastors serving in local churches in the District
  • Seminary students, including declared and certified candidates for ministry
In the case of multiple point charges where only one lay member from the charge is authorized to attend, the congregation not represented may suggest a name as an equalization member. A church/charge must send a lay member to Annual Conference in order to send an Equalization Member.

If you or someone you know is interested in serving as an Equalization Member to Annual Conference, please complete the application.

Please return the completed application by March 21. The application must have your pastor's signature and the Lay Member from your church must be listed.

We will notify those who have been selected by April 1. Do not register until you have been notified that you will serve
