Attend Taste of OSU

Taste of OSU is an Ohio State signature event that brings together student organizations to provide a night of international food appreciation, cultural performances and exhibits to a crowd of about 4,000 attendees. The Brazilian Student Association (BRASA) is participating and will be serving salpicão (Brazilian chicken salad) and vegan chocolate cake.

This year, Taste of OSU will take place on February 16 from 5 - 8:30 p.m. in the Ohio Union. Entry is free and all are invited to attend. Tickets to purchase small samplings of international foods will cost only $1 each.

Food tickets will be on sale on the day of the event (cash or BuckID) and will also be available for pre-sale starting on Monday, February 12 at the information desk in the Ohio Union (BuckID only).

eVisa: Brazil Launches a Simplified Way for U.S. Citizens to Apply for a Visa

On January 25 the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the Electronic Visitor Visa Program, eVisa, for those who hold a United States passport, and a few other countries. This new process of acquiring a visa electronically will be easier because applicants that meet the requirements do not have to visit a Brazilian consulate.

You can apply for the eVisa and obtain it online or through the app on your mobile phone or tablet. Provided all required documents are submitted correctly, visas are normally issued within 4 - 5 working days.

Another benefit is that the cost is lower than when applying for a visa at a consulate. In total, obtaining a visa through eVisa is $44.50 (visa fee of $40 plus a service fee of $4.24). The visa will be valid for up to two years, for a maximum of 90 days in-country per year. All major visa categories are covered: business, tourism, cultural and scientific programs, research activity and studies.

For more details on necessary documentation, FAQs and accessing the online form, please, visit the eVisa website.

Global Perspectives: Luisa Ferrari
Luisa Ferrari is a visiting scholar from Brazil in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.

Spending a semester at Ohio State was an opportunity that changed my "global perspective". I came to Ohio State to carry out a part of my master's degree research in Brazil, but when I arrived here, I found out opportunities which went far beyond my own research. I had the opportunity to attend, as a guest student, two courses, which really contributed to my academic background and got me to be a better professional in my research field. I was also able to participate in a research project developed by my department, Department of Spanish and Portuguese. I was happy to participate in that project because I learned new ways of doing research in my field.

In November, I had the pleasure to display my research project at the International Scholar Research Exposition, which is hosted by the Office of International Affairs. Being recognized for my work was a rewarding experience. In the event, I was also able to meet other scholars and get to know the diversity of research happening on campus.
In the light of so many opportunities, I would describe my experience at Ohio State as a multivariate experience. The initial aims of my spending this semester at Ohio State were expanded in ways I could not imagine before.

In terms of extra-academic activities, I also had a great time here. The university offers a number of leisure activities which make our experience even more pleasant.

What really stood out to me during my time there was the constant effort people make to ensure international students and staff feel welcome there. Diversity is a word that describes Buckeyes well, and this allowed me to get to know different perspectives on research and lifestyle. I thank Ohio State for this great semester.
