Tonight kicks off a busy weekend for our junior and senior dance students as they present the Emerging Choreographers Concert. The pieces featured in the concert have been created by the students, transforming them into choreographers as they watch their own creations come to life onstage. The concert takes place in the Creative Arts Center Dance Studio tonight and tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. A $5.00 donation is suggested to support future student productions.

Congratulations to our Model UN team for earning 11 awards at the 25th annual Dayton Model UN Conference (DAYMUNC) at Sinclair Community College last weekend. The two-day conference was attended by regional university teams representing different countries in four simulated committees of the United Nations.

Autumn Kern, International Studies, won Outstanding Delegate as France in Security Council. Jakob Puckett, Political Science, and Lana Jones, Political Science, won Distinguished Delegate in their respective committees. Honorable Mention went to Dan Palmer, Business Economics, Karli Riviello, International Studies and French, Brad Steel, Political Science, Stephanie Patino-Garfias, Political Science and International Studies, Samantha Pugh, Political Science, Jacob Manser, Computer Engineering, and Swaleh Ouma, International & Comparative Politics (ICP). In addition to ten committee awards, Swaleh Ouma, ICP, won Outstanding Position Paper for the entire conference. Kudos to SPIA faculty Vaughn Shannon and Liam Anderson, advisers to the Model UN team, and Head Delegates Amanda Baker and Crystal Burns, ICP, for leading our team to such tremendous success.

Modern Language's fifth annual Chinese Immersion Day will take place next Thursday, February 15.  Around 85 local high school students will come to Wright State to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dog and immerse themselves in the richness of the Chinese language and culture.  After pledging to speak only Chinese throughout the day, students will participate in four breakout sessions: Chinese Culture Jeopardy; Peking Opera Face Painting; Fan Dancing with Kong Fu postures; and Chinese Charades.  Kudos to Haili Du, Chinese, for her hard work putting together this wonderful program.  Immediately following, the high school students will join over 400 local students and visitors in the Student Union Apollo Room to celebrate the Lunar New Year hosted by the Office of Latino, Asian and Native American Affairs (LANA).  All are welcome to this celebration.

The CoLA Dean's Student Advisory Board (featured in the photo banner above) is presenting Heart to Heart with Dean Caron on February 21, 11:30-12:30, in the Millett Atrium.  I am looking forward to this opportunity to get to know our students better and to give them a venue to talk to me directly about any questions or concerns they might have. Please help promote this event with your students, and of course be sure to tell them that snacks and refreshments will be provided!
