The Journey of Faith
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of our Lenten journey from Galilee to Golgotha.  Spiritual practices strengthen and deepen our faith for the journey ahead.  In the February issue of Presbyterians Today, pastor N. Graham Standish describes how Christian spiritual practices led him back to the church of Jesus Christ that he walked away from as a teenager.  You may read the article by clicking here ( www.presbyterianmission.org/story/pt-0218-spiritual) or checking out Presbyterians Today and other great magazines waiting for you in our church library.
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is February 14th.  All are welcome to gather with your brothers and sisters in faith for an intergenerational Ash Wednesday.  We begin with a light dinner in the Community Room of the Seminary Church at 5:30 p.m.  Each family is asked to bring fruit or bread to the dinner.  Soup will be served.  A worship service including the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Also, available are "table tents" with Lenten readings, prayers, and actions to help you and your family observe the 40 days of Lent.  These table tents are prepared by our mission partner Bread for the World.

For all who have their palms from Palm Sunday 2017, please bring them to worship this Sunday.  Place them inside the specially marked box located in the narthex.  After worship, these palms will be burned to create the ash for the Ash Wednesday worship service.
Sunday School
There will be no Sunday School for preschoolers through 5th graders on February 18 . In lieu of Sunday school, Carol Klumb will be hosting a "Crafts with Carol" upstairs in the Geneva room for this age group.
Creating a Healthy Oxford Community
Miami's Office of Community Engagement and the Oxford Interfaith Center, invite you to register for the inaugural Town-Gown Interfaith Lunchtime Book Club.

The Book Club is a welcoming space that seeks to build relationships between campus and community leaders through reflective discussion around how our own values, spirituality, and faith & secular identities present challenges, opportunities, and motivations to extend hospitality across lines of difference.  The Book Club will also reflect on how we the Miami campus community can provide leadership for students on how to encounter difference in a way that fosters respect and understanding, even if not always agreement.

Oxford Community members and Miami faculty and staff are welcome to participate. The Book Club will meet three times during the Spring to discuss Eboo Patel's Interfaith Leadership. Meetings will be held at the Interfaith Center and lunch and books will be provided at no cost to participants. Registration is open through February 16th. From A Mission Partner
Join Family Promise in welcoming Desmond, Danielle and their children Desmond II and Dani'yla. This is Family Promise's newest family! When families come to our program they often have many barriers to overcome and it can seem very   overwhelming for them.  We, along with our network of supporters provide hope as we help families tackle one issue at a time.

Desmond and Danielle are beginning to work on their goals to find childcare, education, employment and housing. It is difficult to tackle all of these things at once, especially when they do not have transportation to get to appointments, interviews, or work. Having a car would ease some of Desmond and Danielle's stress and help them reach all of their goals and graduate successfully from our program. Family Promise is reaching out to see if transportation can be found for this family.

If you or anyone you know has a gently used car or monetary donations, please contact Chris Kramer at  ckramer@familypromisebutlercounty.com. Any donations can be sent to: P.O. Box 95, Hamilton, OH 45011 Please indicate your donation is for Desmond & Danielle's car fund.
Faith and Film
During the film awards "season" you may wish to read Rev. Dr. Edward McNulty's article from the Presbyterian News Service "Faith Sightings in Award Nominated (and Lesser Known) Movies" by clicking here -  https://www.presbyterianmission.org/story/top-10-films-visual-parables-2017/  Rev. McNulty includes scripture passages with each mini-review to foster conversations connecting faith and film.
