Issue #187 - February 8, 2018

From the Carpenter's Bench:
Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever listens to you listens to me."

A teacher of little children began her class on Jesus, saying: "Today I want to tell you about someone you will want to meet. This person loves you even more than your closest friend loves you. This person is kinder than the kindest person you know. This person forgives you no matter how often you do wrong." As the teacher continued, she noticed a little boy in the last row getting more and more excited. Suddenly the little boy could not contain himself any longer. He blurted out excitedly, "I know the person you're talking about! He lives on our street."

What is one way that my life mirrors the life of Jesus? What is one way that it does not?

Some weeks are better than others! This is a lesson for life that all of us must try to follow and aspire to, but sometimes we fall short. In a time of divisiveness and cruelty, we must work together to guide our students to be good people of kindness and respect! As a school, we talk about it, but are we living it and modeling it for our children? All schools, places of business, and communities have issues, but as a Catholic School it is especially important that we emphasize kindness and respect of others even if we don't get along with one another. All of us-- parents, teachers, administrators, and staff--must be leaders for our children.

"Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel your presence in my spirit."
- John Henry Newman
