April Note from JK
 
I am so thrilled for April to be here, after-all that means it is Spring time. Right? Considering I am wearing my Arcytrx puffy coat while sitting in the back yard writing this, I'd say we have a way to go. By California standards that is. I will meditate on patience this evening, in the meantime I am praying for warmer spring days soon. 
 
We do have a lot of exciting things in this month's newsletter, and happening at Zen over the month. Our featured teacher is the effervescent Sara Lindsey who reveals to us in her feature, about her secret "other" life outside of Pilates (as if there were such a thing, silly girl!). We announce the launch of our 2018 $10 classes - and the April schedule- book early there are only 2-3 spots in each class!!! I another article I go on and on about being single, finding love, finding my authentic self and finding inspiration, or something like that. What you will find out is I am a junkie for this stuff, and how you to can discover how to live a more authentic version of your life! There is an article about the  Toughest Pilates - with beautiful photos shot by a talented young photographer,  Wolfie  , of our lovely Zen client and teacher in training Valerie Heckle. This article will give you some insight in where this crazy stuff we call Pilates came from, and how you can do it all on your own (Shhh you don't even need us). As always, we have our monthly daily move- chosen and written up by Ms. Lindsey. Lastly, there is a spring special, we will not offer a rate lower then this for the rest of the year- so do not miss it! 
 
April is the month of our Spring Inspiration 30 Day Challenge! I am in it- are you? You can start your 30 days any time before the 25thof April. I love doing these challenges, they always make me realize how much fitter I can be, and how much I let myself off the hook without the nudge of, "I committed to getting 20 classes in in 30 days!" Plus, Christian always designs such a darn good looking challenge T-Shirt. I am 5 days and 4 classes in to mine! How about you?

How Seeking My Soul Mate Healed My Soul

I recall a time when I was a single lady- looking for that special man (who we now know is named Simon) ... I went on many dates during this time. Some with toads, some with princes, just not my prince. During most of these dates, I would inevitably be asked the standard 1 standard 
date question, "what do you like to do when you aren't working?" I would shutter on the inside- I was so boring! My internal voice would say, "I like to do Pilates, take Yoga classes, go running, go to SoulCycle, and for a really wild time I will meditate for up to an hour at a time. And you?" But my external voice would say something generic like, "Oh you know, the usual, a little hiking, some Yoga, spend time with friends, concerts that sort of thing". And this was also true. I do LOVE spending time with friends. I go to many concerts and live performances every year. I used to be an avid hiker/backpacker. The disconnect came was that I was not showing my true self- I was embarrassed of my true self- I therefore hid my true self.  Subconsciously, I didn't feel good about this evasion of total honesty, yet I persisted in my fake answer. One day, on one of these boiler plate first dates, something came over me- it may have been the Rose' we were enjoying at 1PM on a Sunday, but in any case...

What is a PopTT-Up Class you ask?

These are classes that will not be permanently added to our class schedule, hence the name Pop-up. The "TT" stands for Teacher in Training.

Over the next 6 months we will offer a variety of small classes each week where clients can sign up to work with our teachers in training. These classes are 45-50 minutes long and will be a variety of equipment, such as the mat, Reformer and Trapeze/Cadillac table.

The Toughest Pilates
 
March has come to a close, and with it, the end of March Matness. At quick glance, you may have read that as March Madness, the yearly national college basketball playoff series, and thought, "Wow, Juliet, I didn't know you were into sports!" Or you may have assumed it was simply a typo on my part. However, neither would be the case. March Matness is a yearly celebration in the Pilates community, during which we commemorate our forefather, Joseph H. Pilates, and his original work, the Mat Repertoire. Over the course of 31 days, Pilates teachers, students and enthusiasts from around the world post their expression of these original exercises on social media- Pilates sans Reformer.

Pilates in the Courtyard! 
 
Join us in the courtyard of Robertson Plaza for a morning of Pilates!  Studio owner and Master Teacher, Juliet Kaska, will lead an hour long mat Pilates class in the newly remodeled courtyard.  Take a breath and exhale as you flow through a classical mat Pilates series, targeting each muscle group while you tighten and tone your core.  Class starts at 10am. Cost is FREE for active clients of JK Zen Fitness and only $10 for everyone else.  DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR MAT!
