Superheroes Converge at Horizons' 2018 Benefit

On February 1st, over 200 Horizons superheroes gathered at SOMArts Cultural Center to support Horizons' upcoming fifth summer. It was a wonderful night that surpassed our ambitious goal, raising over $140,000 to support the program's continuing growth and impact! Attendees enjoyed delicious food, cheerful community, and inspiration from guest speaker Sylvia Mendez, who spoke powerfully about her role in desegregating California schools in 1947 and the duty we have to pursue educational equity today. On behalf of Horizons' staff and board, thank you to everyone who attended and gave generously to advance equitable access to quality summer learning opportunities in San Francisco. We are also deeply grateful to Sylvia for sharing her story, to our amazing volunteer auctioneer, Matt Perry, to Horizons' event planning committee, and to our many local business and individual sponsors. Horizons Receives 5-Year DCYF Grant

We are proud and delighted to share that Horizons at SFFS is one of 60 San Francisco year-round and summer learning programs that was awarded a multi-year grant from the SF Department of Children, Youth, & Their Families (DCYF).  This funding will help support Horizons' personnel costs, enrichment programs, and expansion into middle school. We look forward to working with the DCYF team and to collaborating and learning alongside our fellow grantees!
Family math day
Family Math

On Saturday, January 13th, the Horizons community returned to SFFS for a Horizons Family Math Day. Parents attended a workshop on how to help their children with math, with SFUSD's Meredith Simpson. SFFS math teacher David Louis led Horizons staff and SFFS student/alum volunteers in playing fun, skill-building math games with the program's students. Thank you to everyone who made this special reunion at the midway point of the year a success! Our Team is Taking Shape

Horizons staff are the backbone of our high-quality summer program, and recruiting efforts for Summer 2018 are well underway. Nine  of our amazing staff members from Summer 2017 have already committed to returning. A special shoutout goes to teaching assistant  Erick Reyna, who is entering his fifth year with our program! We are also excited to welcome three new teaching assistants  to our team, who have diverse backgrounds from homelessness prevention to software engineering.  Read more 2018 staff bios on our website.

We are still hiring experienced, dedicated lead teachers for Summer 2018! If you know a teacher who would enjoy spending the summer in our joyful learning environment, please direct them to our  employment openings.
