OSHA 300 Log and Record Keeping
OSHA requires that certain employers prepare and maintain records of work-related injuries and illnesses. Employers must keep a Log for each establishment or site. If you have more than one establishment, you must keep a separate Log and Summary for each physical location that is expected to be in operation for one year or longer. Record keeping  is a critical part of an employer's safety and health efforts; keeping accurate records helps to identify problem areas and can help to reduce and prevent injuries and illnesses in the future. In addition, as employee awareness about injuries, illnesses, and hazards in the workplace improves, workers are more likely to follow safe work practices and report workplace hazards.
PGM Safety Services, an affiliate of Pro Group Management recommends that all employers in Nevada keep a current injury and illness log either using the OSHA 300 Log forms or by using another system of reporting that is at least as informational as the OSHA 300 Log.  An employer may be asked by OSHA or the Bureau of Labor Statistics to provide injury and illness data at any time and it is best to be prepared. If an employer does receive a request letter to participate in this program, the employer is required to respond with the information regardless of any exemption under 29 CFR 1904.
The date for submitting and posting your injury and illness logs is quickly approaching. The safety professionals at PGM Safety Services are ready to assist you with completing the required forms. Contact your safety specialist or call 1 (800) 859-3177 and let us help you with meeting the record keeping requirements today.
