- There are 18 bakers enrolled in our program, which means that the program is at 90% capacity.
- Current open enrollment slots:
- Monday:1 - Thursday: 1 - Friday: 2
The arcBARKS daily tuition rate will increase from $24 to $30 per day as of July 1, 2017. The program operates on a six-hour shift from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. Based on the number of scheduled weekly shifts, the flat monthly tuition rates are listed below in yellow.
Please note that the program charges tuition on a 48-week per year basis, which yields the # of free/unpaid days per year. We have chosen to utilize this system to avoid the cost and complexity of tracking vacation, sick days and other absences.
We're always looking for new ways to adapt our program in order to assist our bakers in learning new skills and gaining independence. Here are a few of our recent modifications:
Peanut Butter Barker Shelving
In order to create more structure within our shelving system, we organized the large shelf of Peanut Butter Barkers into 3 columns: Classic size (left), Mini size (center) and Lowes Foods (right). We also adjusted the treat boxes so they are all facing the same direction, which is an easier pattern bakers can follow when stocking shelves. We also added colored shelf arrows (yellow for Classic, orange for Mini and green for Lowes) so bakers know which shelf to pull treats from (oldest first) when they are filling an order or restocking the cash register area.
We also created a designated area where bakers can prepare and package local and online orders. This shipping station is right next to our large shelf of treats (easier access) and includes all of the supplies needed for packing orders.
We now have a burger-patty press that bakers can use to form the treat dough into patty shapes after its been mixed. By pressing the dough into a patty shape, it allows for the dough to be rolled out more evenly through the dough sheeter.
More Open Space & Blue Paint
We moved the dough sheeter (pictured left) against the wall in order to provide more space near the oven. The dough sheeter was previously in the center of the kitchen area, by the oven, and the area would often become congested. We also painted the bakery a light blue color.
Table Boundaries & Seating Arrangements
Rather than having the 4 large work tables pushed together as 1 large table, we separated the tables into 2 separate groups, with 2 tables each. Pink duct tape was also added down the center of the tables to create work area boundaries. Yellow arrows with bakers' names and photos are also being utilized as place cards for assigned seating. We have observed that the combination of these 3 elements has helped to improve focus.
