The EMS ISD Athletic Department hosted National Signing Day at all three comprehensive high schools in the district on Wednesday, February 7. SHS Senior Recognized for Volunteer Service
Saginaw High School senior Ryan Almusawi was name a Distinguished Finalist in The 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Texas, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism.
Almusawi's community service contributions include mobilizing more than 200 volunteers to help provide more than 10,000 meals for homeless people in the region through "Slay Hunger," an initiative he started in January 2017. His program works with local businesses to collect and donate leftover food for the homeless, in addition to hosting activities including volunteer PB&J-making events. He will receive an engraved bronze medal for his service.
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) released the 2018-2020 athletic realignment on Thursday, February 1. UIL aligns the competitive districts every two years to account for population shifts and the opening of new schools.

EMS ISD is expanding opportunities for middle school advanced level and gifted and talented students with the addition of more Pre-AP and humanity-based courses in the 2018-2019 school year.

Tickets for EMS ISD's Fine Arts Showcase at Bass Performance Hall are now on sale through the Bass Hall box office. This year's show features five elementary choirs, the high school dance programs, and the middle school and high school bands.
