2nd Annual CHHE Symposium
The CHHE Second Annual Science Symposium will explore the importance of epigenetics in linking environmental exposures to human health and disease, covering the spectrum from fundamental biological mechanisms to novel therapeutic approaches. The Symposium will feature guest speakers at the forefront of the field, and will showcase the breadth of epigenetics research within CHHE.

See you there!
Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD)
Are you curious about the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD)? It's part of CHHE's Integrative Health Sciences Facility Core and CHHE members can get help doing searches to enhance their research. See the new article by Carolyn Mattingly for more information on CTD and what it can do.
Interest Groups News
Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals Group
We're planning our first annual meeting for  2/23 . The meeting will host speakers from all across NC and focus on topics such as GenX and related chemicals, brain and behavior, and metabolic effects from EDC exposures. The meeting will take place at NIEHS.

The Environmental Epigenetics Interest Group
Leaders: David Aylor and Mike Cowley
The next gathering will be at the CHHE Annual Symposium, with the theme of Epigenetics, Environment, and Human Health. Members are welcome (and encouraged!) to present posters of their work.

Neuroscience Group
Our symposium proposal entitled "Sex-specific outcomes of environmental chemical exposures" was accepted for the 2018 meeting of the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences. Heather Patisaul will give one of the talks and John Meitzen will chair the session. Other speakers include Heather Stapleton (Duke), Emily Barrett (Brown University) and Staci Bilbo (Harvard) all of whom have active collaborations with CHHE members.
Zebrafish Group
Leader: Heather Shive
ZIG is planning an informal work-in-progress meeting for Spring 2018. This meeting will provide the opportunity for students and post-docs to present their ongoing projects and get feedback from the group. The date for this meeting is not yet determined.

Pulmonary Interest Group
Leaders: Kym Gowdy and Jane Hoppin
The pulmonary team met at ECU on January 26. Kym Gowdy and Jane Hoppin presented about their ongoing research. Over 20 students, faculty and post-docs attended. Our next meeting is at NCCU on April 20. Carresse Gerald will be our host and she and Coby Schal will make presentations about their research. We're planning a mini-symposium for June. Hope you can join us at one of these events.

Congratulations to Kym Gowdy for receiving a NIEHS grant "Novel role for CD163 in ozone induced alterations of pulmonary immunity"
2/15/2018 to 2/14/2019 ($150,000)
We want your good news! Please send it to Jackie Broughton or Jane Hoppin
Career Development
All investigators but particularly Early Stage Investigators are encouraged to work with the   Career Development Core i n development of their grants. Talk to   Nanette Nascone-Yoder   t o set up a chalk talk to help organize ideas for your next proposa l.
Beer Reviewed Science

Drs. Mike Cowley , Erin McKenney, and Lynsey Romo kicked off 2018’s Beer-Reviewed Science series with a discussion on diet and alcohol choices. Over 30 people joined us at Oak and Dagger with questions about the microbiome, high-fat American diets, and how to talk about personal dietary choices.

Check with COEC for upcoming dates!
