New HHS to Open in 2021 on Schedule
Highline HIgh School (HHS) students will move into the Olympic Interim School one year later than planned, with no change to the scheduled opening of the new HHS. Students will spend only two years, rather than three, at the interim site. The new HHS is slated to open in fall 2021.

Example of electronic lock added to interior door.
Our 2016 bond pays for updated electronic locks districtwide. Over the past 18 months, facilities staff have surveyed exterior and classroom doors at all schools and researched hardware solutions. Now we're ready to start installation.

Phase 1--Early Spring 2018
  • Activate existing electronic card readers and automatic door locks on exterior entrances to the 15 schools that had card readers installed when they were built.

  • Add interior deadbolt locks to all classrooms with doors to the outside.
Phase 2--Summer 2018 to Spring 2019
  • Install automatic door locks and card readers at entrance doors of all schools (at least six per school).

  • Update all interior classroom doors with electronic locks, which can be locked remotely by security or the school office.

CFAC Makes Progress on School Boundaries
Community members from each service area in Highline are working together to draft new school boundaries for our elementary and middle schools.

The Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) members recently squeezed additional meetings into their schedule.  The reason: redrawing boundaries is time-consuming work requiring many difficult decisions. CFAC members are determined to draw boundaries that meet current and future needs and that won't need to be changed again soon.

Members have agreed on  principles  that will guide their recommendation. The committee will present a recommendation for new boundaries to the public and ask for feedback this spring. New boundaries will take effect in fall 2019, when the new elementary and middle school open.

The CFAC meeting schedule is posted. All are welcome to attend and listen.

Evergreen High School is $250,000 closer to an artificial turf field thanks to a Youth & Amateur Sports Grant from King County Parks!

This $1.4 million project is not part of Highline's 2016 bond and is slated for a future bond. We are applying for grants and seeking funding to build it sooner if possible.

Coming Soon: Naming Our New Schools
Check your email next week for a simple survey to provide feedback on possible names for our new elementary school in Des Moines and new middle school in SeaTac.

Our naming committees each have a list of 8-10 names and want your input before shortening the lists to 3-5 names to submit to the school board.
