City Development Administration:
2017 Accomplishments and 2018 Forecast

The City Development Administration (CDA) consists of four important Departments:  Planning and Economic Development, Transportation and Parking Management, Real Estate and Property Management and Enterprise Facilities.  Our work includes diverse activities including: helping large businesses expand (Raymond James),  constructing a $76 million project (The Pier), assisting small neighborhood businesses (The Greenhouse),  managing bold neighborhood district plans (Trop Site, Skyway Marina District, Edge District),  buying land for greenspace or leasing city-owned property (Manhattan Casino) for development, expanding transportation uses (Bike Share, Complete Streets),  and expanding the use of City-owned facilities (Marina, Port, Airport, Coliseum, Sunken Gardens, Jamestown).  But in the end, these activities have one thing in common: to expand commerce and create more job opportunities for city residents.

Jabil Inc. announced Monday, February 5th, its intention to construct a new worldwide headquarters at its existing location in the Gateway area of St. Petersburg at Roosevelt Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Street North, in partnership with the City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County and the State of Florida.

"Jabil has been committed to St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay area for 30 years," said Jabil CEO Mark Mondello. "The new campus will bring our local employees together on a single, safe, modern, environmentally friendly campus."

While many other locations were considered over the last three years, the current St. Petersburg campus has been selected as the preferred site and will be finalized once all of the government approvals are in plance.

"Our home here in St. Petersburg will continue to be a global connector for our 180,000 employees worldwide. We're excited to be part of the continued success of the City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County and the State of Florida," said Mondello.

State of the St. Petersburg Economy Presentation

Did you miss last week's 3rd Annual State of the St. Petersburg Economy event? Watch it now! The event was also covered by  Tampa Bay Business Journal. "Mayor Kriseman touted record unemployment numbers that topple state lows and record job growth that saw a boom in the city's data analytics offerings."

The presentation ran through 30 key economic indicator benchmarks, 27 trending positively, but also focused on areas of improvement: "There is clearly a gap right now between the money a developer can make on space and how much it costs to build," referencing the demand for more office space needed throughout the city.
