Most area residents know about the historic train exhibit surrounding the Converse County Visitors Center. Housed in the historic FE&MV Railroad Depot, the Center is also home to a 63-year-old model train.
"Tom Johnson, who has family in this area" says Visitor Center Director Helga Bull, "donated the train to the Visitor Center in 2014." Upon donation it took Tom about two weeks to get the train all set up. Since that time, he frequently visits the Center to make sure everything is in working order.
Young and old alike appreciate seeing the train in action. If you have family in town for the holidays, it's a great time to visit the Center to see the model train. Also take in the historic steam locomotive and rail cars surrounding the Depot.
The Visitors Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. most days over the holidays. They will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 for Christmas, and Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for the New Year's holiday.
The Converse County Visitors Center is a division of The Enterprise.
