The Women’s Fund of Winston-Salem:
a
community of passionate women creating social change -
held its 13
th
Annual Luncheon on Thursday, November 15, at the Benton Convention Center in downtown Winston-Salem. Over 700 members and friends of the Fund gathered to celebrate the power in our individual and collective voice as
Champions of Change
.
Over the past 13 years, the Fund and various local organizations have worked together to ensure that women and girls of all backgrounds and ages have access to resources and opportunities that support and equip them to be empowered and successful leaders in the community. This year’s keynote speaker was Silvia Ramos. Silvia challenged the audience to cultivate our inner Champions by pushing through our fears, breaking our daily silences, and remembering, in the words of Barbara Jordan, that “We are the ones we have been waiting for!” Silvia has been an inclusion strategist, community builder, and passionate advocate for building equitable communities for over 20 years.
The 2018 grant recipients were announced at this year’s luncheon, where the Fund awarded $109,685 grants to eight local nonprofit organizations who aim to address the economic security of women and girls in Forsyth County. Since its founding, and with the support of civil and corporate members of the community, the Women’s Fund of Winston-Salem has awarded over $1.5 million in grants.
As we continue to work together, the Fund is confident that the 2018 grant recipients will positively impact the lives of countless women and girls in our community.
