Bradford Graves Sculpture
|
 Visitors to the Stone Ridge Library will now be greeted by a beautiful limestone sculpture that has been installed amongst the plantings that line the bluestone walkway at the entrance to the 1798 stone building. The sculpture, titled Magnus I, was created in 1995 by Bradford Graves, and was recently donated by Verna Gillis in memory of her late husband.
The sculpture arrived on December 1, transported with support from the Stone Ridge Library Board of Trustees and logistical help from Francisco Rivera, Varcia Venetzanos and Board Member Ethan Plank.
"We are delighted with this beautiful addition to the Library grounds," said Director Jody Ford. "And we thank Ms. Gillis for providing the sculpture for our patrons and visitors to enjoy."

Judy Stanger - New Artist

 Through March 16
The Stone Ridge Library is pleased to welcome Judy Stanger as the Winter 2017/18 artist. Judy has been painting with pastel for more than 25 years, and finds inspiration in Atlantic seascapes as well as the Hudson Valley Landscape. Her show will be on view from December 22 through March 16.
Judy lives in Stone Ridge, NY and is a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Albany with a Doctorate of the Arts, an interdisciplinary degree in the Humanities. Her colorful landscapes distill images represented in nature - mountains, rivers, and barns - through their interaction with light and color. Judy exhibited her work in the library in 2015, and is returning with some new work in addition to favorites that were part of the earlier show. The art will be available for purchase. Visit

CLIMATE CHANGE and HOPE
in the Hudson Valley

 Tim Guinee, Marbletown resident, actor and a leader at the Climate Reality Project, will be at the Marbletown Community Center, for "Climate Change and Hope in the Hudson Valley," a slideshow and discussion of the latest science regarding climate change in our area and across North America.
Founded by Nobel Laureate and former Vice President Al Gore, the
Climate Reality Project is a diverse group of individuals who seek to catalyze a global solution to the climate crisis by supporting urgent action across every level of society.
Guinee's presentation will use the same deck of images that Vice President Al Gore uses when the tours the country to talk about climate change. Afterwards, Guinee will lead a panel discussion among local experts about the implications of climate change for the Hudson Valley.
This event is co-sponsored by the Marbletown Environmental Conservation Commission and the Rondout Permaculture Meetup.

We are excited to welcome Ms. Celeste to the Stone Ridge Library. Ms. Celeste has worked in preschools and loves this age group. Ms. Celeste already has crafts, songs and activities planned for our littlest patrons. Storytime is a fun and fanciful introduction to the library, and a great opportunity to meet other children and parents. The Preschool story hour is open to
children ages 3-5.
The preschool story time is brought to you in partnership with the Marbletown Youth Commission. The children's room appreciates their continued support of our library's preschool programming.

A writers' group meets every other Monday at the Library, with a maximum of 10 participants. This program is designed for people who are already in the process of writing and publishing work and want to participate in a structured feedback process. Cathy Arra, a poet, writer and former teacher of English and Writing in the Rondout Valley School District facilitates the group.  KNITTING GROUP
Every Saturday
10am-noon
The Stone Ridge Library Knitters meet every Saturday morning from 10am - 12noon. All ages and experience levels can join us and drop-in knitters are also welcome. We each bring our own supplies and do our own work, but one of the best things about us is that whatever obstacle or confusion you might encounter, you're likely to receive as much comment and advice as you need to get where you're going with a project. Some of us can help toward the repair of knitted or crocheted items too.
 The group is sociable and lively, and our conversation and sharing is just as wide-ranging as our projects. We are especially interested in the UFOs (Un-Finished Objects) that members bring in and love the show and tell of projects under way and being finished, new or old, simple or complex. Though knitting is our love and mainstay, we graciously adapt ourselves to stray crocheters and those of us who simply must take to the hook when the spirit moves. We share articles, magazines and books on knitting. Donations of yarn to the Library get made up into items for sale at the Library Fair and during the winter holidays for the benefit of the Library. Some of us also knit things for local hospitals or for the U.S. troops.
