Dear WA Link Sisters.....last week was a very difficult one for the Black Sorority community. I am saddened to share with you that three Past National Presidents were called to their heavenly home.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated mourns the passing of the 19th International President Bernice Irene Sumlin who died on Thursday, January 11. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated mourns the passing of the 14th National President, Atty Frankie Muse Freeman and the 17th National President, Mona Humphries Bailey. Both Delta Sigma Theta Past Presidents died on Friday, Jan 12th.
I know many of us have deep and strong roots in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority or Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The overlapping of our sisterhood in The Links, Incorporated and sororities allows the pain from situations like this to also affect our Links community, whether or not we personally share in these dual memberships. Because when one of us hurts, we all hurt.
So, on behalf of the Western Area I extend condolences to all our Link sisters who suffered these losses. We extend our love and heartfelt sympathies. We also pray the love of GOD enfolds you during your journey through this period of grief.
