 Life at Abilene First

Abilene First Church of the Nazarene                                 February 2018
From Pastor Dave

Greetings Church Family,

Wow!  February already.  I am so excited about this year as we prepare to become the church that becomes a "City Taking" church.  As God taps each one of us on the shoulder to move away from the church inside the building to becoming the church outside the building, pray the following prayer with me: ( Taken from 40 days of Prayer - Breathing Healing and Hope into Your Church. )

I lay down pride and logic today.

I lay down the need to be right.

I lay down the "knowing."

I lay down the familiar and safe.

I lay down "figuring it all out."

I give up my righto be offended.

I bask in the beauty and Glory of You.

I hold dear to the Cross.

I plead the Blood of the Lamb over every soul wound, hurt and pain.

I let go of pleasing man.

I surrender fairness.

I collapse at the foot of my Maker.

I cling to the Sword of the Spirit.

I hold fast to the meditation of His Word.

I stay centered in the Voice of Truth.

I lay down prominence, fame, position and notoriety and pick up death to self, suffering for His name, and selflessness.

I'll go where you ask and do what You say.

I've been called, equipped, crowned, graced, favored, anointed, and commissioned as His son/daughter with a call.

I will rest in His Love daily.

I won't back down, quit, complain, or cease the mission until He comes back for me!

With that prayed, I say to you my beloved FCN family... Charge Ahead Soldier!

Blessings on all y'all,
PD

Annual Church Elections

Annual Church Elections will be held on Sunday, February 18, after the Morning Worship Service.  There will also be a short business meeting following the elections.
Man Camp

The first annual district "Man Camp" will be held at Camp Arrowhead Friday, February 23-Sunday, February 25.

Men are invited to join together for an awesome weekend of fellowship and spiritual renewal.  Men gathering for the purpose of seeking all of God and connecting with each other can be one of the most powerful tools God can use in our churches and communities.  We have a lot in common as men and getting closer together is the key.

Our speaker, Dr. Keith Newman, SNU President, will challenge and encourage our me to give their whole lives to God so they can make that difference in their families, their churches, and their communities.  Worship services will be our top priority-Jairo Maldonado and worship team will be leading us in celebration and worship.

FOOD - Men love to eat good food-and we'll have lots of it!  BBQ ribs, chicken and sausage with all the fixin's, grilled burgers and fries-full on breakfast, Gourmet Nacho and S'mores bar after the evening services.

MAN CAVE - will be open 24/7 with late-night sports movies, all the coffee you want - snacks - sports tv and more.  A great place to hang out.

PURPOSE - This weekend camp is designed for men only.  The most important agenda of the camp is men meeting God.  Men can hang out, hit trails, sleep, go into town, or participate in horseshoe and ping pong tournaments, volleyball, basketball, archery and golf.

It's going to be a defining moment for our District Men's Ministry and our churches.  We're looking forward to a great time of fellowship together-when men gather...things happen!

MONTHLY EMPHASIS FOR FEBRUARY:  ALABASTER OFFERING

What is Alabaster?

The Alabaster Offering provides funds for property and buildings around the world. While we understand the church consists of the people of God and not a building, buildings erected for the purpose of ministry help provide a sense of permanence, functionally enhance ministry efforts, and convey an  attitude that the Church of the Nazarene intends to "put down roots." Alabaster funds help provide land for many Work & Witness projects, and the entire Alabaster Offering goes toward the purchase of land and construction of churches, schools, medical facilities, and homes for missionaries and national workers.

Men's Basketball
