During the state legislative session, the IAA sends out a bi-weekly legislative update. In these emails you'll get an update on what's going on at the State Capitol, and in Congress, as well as actions you can take to advocate for afterschool!

We hope this communication is helpful to you!
Federal Policy Update
Congress is up against a deadline to address FY 2018 federal funding. The third continuing resolution (CR) passed by Congress in late December is scheduled to expire at midnight tonight, and a way forward through the impasse has not yet emerged. If Congress cannot pass a budget by the deadline, the federal government risks shutting down.

Regardless of when the FY 2018 appropriations process wraps up, the FY 2019 cycle is hot on its heels. The president will talk about his priorities for the budget in his State of the Union Address on January 30, 2018, and is scheduled to release his budget on or before February 5, 2018.

Last year, the president's budget request eliminated  21st CCLC  funding which would have left two million children without access to quality afterschool and summer learning programs. As the budget release date approaches, stay tuned for updates and ways to take action to ensure continued support for afterschool.

State Policy Update
The 2018 state legislative session kicked off last Monday - with elections in November, this session is expected to be a short one.
