2018 Scholastic Arts Awards Winners   
Congratulations are in order for the twenty-three students from Liberty, five students from Century, and two students from Glencoe High School who earned recognition through the 2018 Scholastic Arts Awards program. Award levels include Gold and Silver Key and Honorable Mention. The Gold Key Award-winning works of art are on display at the   Pacific Northwest College of Art (511 NW Broadway, Portland 97209) through Friday, Feb. 23, 2018. Students earning Gold Key Awards are Chrisjon Andrei Barrett from Century; Yanelys Medina from Glencoe; and Haleigh Anderson, Brianna Blasingame, Olivia Boatwright, Aislin Callaghan, Diego Delgadillo, Malia Hemphill, Emily Le, Faith McCorkle, and Qinxia Xie from Liberty. Silver Key Awards and Honorable Mentions were earned by Madison Adams, Aya Attal, Rylee Skidmore, and Jospin Mugisha from Century; Alex Agostini from Glencoe; and Brian Blake, Briana Blasingame, Krystinia Brown, Aislin Callaghan, Xavier Cisneros, Ivy Cissney, Joy Drescher, Lance Gates, Dominic Hemphill, Whitney Ho, Mary Anne Laxamana, Faith McCorkle, Andrew Pehrson, Hunter Raymond, Brianna Rostel, Daisy Sanchez Sanchez, and Reese Withers from Liberty.


School-Based Health Center Immunization Clinic is 2/14

Our School-Based Health Center at Century High School, 1998 SE Century Blvd., is holding an immunization clinic on Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help students get the immunizations they need to remain in school beyond Immunization Exclusion Day: Wednesday, Feb. 21. Though immunizations can be administered at any time, the clinic provides a full day where immunizations are the focus. Students must bring any known immunization records and/or the letter they receive from their school stating which immunizations they need. Appointments are recommended; please call 503-597-4580 for scheduling.

Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee Applications Due 2/16   
The application deadline for our Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee is this Friday, Feb. 16. This will be an advisory committee to the Board that will meet in open session at least quarterly to review the bond program's progress, spending and schedules; they will provide written reports for the Board after each meeting. The committee will hold its first meeting no later than April 6, 2018, and will be dissolved on Jan. 1, 2022, or upon issuance of a final report after all bond projects have been completed. Hillsboro Schools Foundation Gala and Auction   
For the best night of fun and fundraising around, please plan to attend the Hillsboro Schools Foundation's annual Gala and Auction on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 5:30 p.m.  to 10 p.m. at NW Events & Environments, 2900 NE Century Blvd., #100, Hillsboro. With a theme of "Gala Royale: Golden Age of Vegas," hundreds of silent auction items, enticing live auction items, great food and entertainment - all to raise money for Hillsboro schools and students - it's an event not to be missed. Ticket purchase deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 14.

OEA Symposium on Trauma-Informed Practices
OEA will host its 8th annual symposium from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Embassy Suites in Tigard, 9000 SW Washington Sq. Rd. Dr. Todd Bloomquist, Director of School Improvement in the Grants Pass School District, along with Dr. Emily Wang and Denise Manderson from the Child Trauma Academy in Calgary, Ontario, will speak to the theme: Educating the Whole Child: How Trauma-Informed Practices Help Students Thrive. The event is open to anyone who is interested, not just licensed staff. Homework Help Now at Brookwood Public Library 
Homework help is now available on a drop-in basis for students in grades 1-12 at the Brookwood Public Library, 2850 NE Brookwood Pkwy., on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and continues at the Shute Park Library, 775 SE 10th Ave., on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

South Hillsboro Community Open House 
Just a reminder that the South Hillsboro Community Open House is taking place this Thursday, Feb. 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rosedale Elementary School, 3901 SE 67th Ave. Plan to attend if you'd like to learn more about housing plans, road projects, traffic impacts, new schools, and the 2018 Street of Dreams.

Hillsboro Tribune Seeking Amazing Kid Nominations 
The Hillsboro Tribune is currently accepting nominations of students who are 18 or younger living in the Hillsboro, North Plains, or Cornelius area to be recognized as their 2018 Amazing Kid. The award celebrates young people who are making a difference in their community. The winner will be honored along with other Amazing Kids from communities across Northwest Oregon at a gala event in May, and will be the focus of a feature story that will run in a special magazine insert in the Tribune and its sister papers for distribution to more than 425,000 people across our region. Entries must be received by Wednesday, Feb. 28. 

President's Environmental Educator Award 
The  Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators program recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers who employ innovative approaches to environmental education. Winners will be awarded up to $2,500 to further their professional development in environmental education; their district/local education agency will also get up to $2,500 for environmental programs. Application deadline is Friday, March 30, 2018.
      
Hillsboro Optimist Essay Contest 
"Can society function without respect?" That is the topic of the 2017-18 Optimist International Essay Contest. Students are invited to write an essay of 700-800 words addressing the topic for a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship. For more information and the application form, please click here.
