2018 Objectives and Perspectives
With the start of the New Year, MCEDC continues to lead efforts that result in the growth of wealth and knowledge in Morgan County. As new opportunities present themselves and Morgan County feels the winds of change at its back, MCEDC continues to assist local leaders in maximizing opportunities that will enhance the quality of life in Morgan County.
Let's take a look at some of the expected, 2018 MCEDC action items as noted below:
· Strengthen our support of industry via our partnership with the Community Foundation of Morgan County as it develops lifelong learning resources that support our schools, students and the adult workforce. Soft skill development and skilled labor availability are critical issues that must be addressed and resolved if we want commerce and industry to thrive in Morgan County.
· Furthering our support of existing employers through business retention and expansion discussions to ensure that local regulations and costs are not detrimental to growth.
· In Martinsville, focusing on three key areas for new investment including the redevelopment of the historic courthouse square, the redevelopment of the South Morton Avenue/SR 39 corridor as it relates to the interstate project, and real estate located to the east of the interstate project.
· In Mooresville, we are funding an engineering review to identify and resolve storm water drainage issues that affect key real estate in and around Flagstaff Business Park - nearly 400 acres identified for potential industrial development.
· Small business assistance and counsel to entrepreneurs seeking resources and opportunities in Morgan County including the appropriate utilization of our USDA revolving loan fund.
· Participation in efforts to identify the Indianapolis metropolitan region as an optimum location for business investment and operations, and to compete for those investment opportunities.
· Enhance our use of social media to deliver the message that Morgan County is open for business and is a viable option for people that seek to make a difference in central Indiana. Quality of place and quality of life are important factors that people consider when deciding where they want to be - why not Morgan County?
It's a snapshot and there is no doubt that it will be a changing, scenic environment in 2018. We look forward to partnering with you to make it the best year ever for business, industry and economic activity in Morgan County - make your investment count!

Mooresville School Approves Adult Ed. Partnership
The Mooresville Consolidated School Corporation (MCSC) Board of Trustees heard a presentation on the reintroduction of adult education courses during its monthly meeting Tuesday.
The adult education courses are offered through a partnership with Wayne Township Adult Education, Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University (VU) and WorkOne.
According to MCSC superintendent Randy Taylor, over 42 percent of students in the district receive free and reduced lunch.
"We have an opportunity to partner in adult education and hopefully start bringing some of these numbers down providing not only a GED, but actually training," Taylor said.
The hope is that by offering the education courses to adults, including parents, the district might be able to reduce the number of students on free and reduced lunch.
Taylor then introduced Christy McIntyre and Amy Richmund from Wayne Township Adult Education.
Patrick Biggerstaff, Director of Career and Technical Education for Area 31, also spoke on the partnership.
"We are, as a group, absolutely ecstatic that we can expand the passions and opportunity to the adult education space," Biggerstaff said....

A Great Year for Morgan County
From the release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Section 6 of the Interstate 69 project, to projects taking place in downtown Mooresville and Martinsville, 2017 was a busy year for economic development in Morgan County.
For Mike Dellinger, executive director of the Morgan County Economic Development Corp., the biggest impact in the county in 2017 was the interstate project.
The county now knows where Section 6 of the interstate will be built and where the interchanges will be constructed throughout the area.
"While change is inevitable, growth is not a given," Dellinger said, adding that the project could help bring a growth in wealth and knowledge for the county.
Dellinger believes 2017 was a continued movement for the county in understanding how the future is played by the infrastructure in the county.
"The interstate defines where the infrastructure is going to be," Dellinger said. "And the mindset is turning toward the growth of knowledge and wealth."
One thing that Dellinger has heard from business leaders is the need for a workforce to live close to their workplace. ...
