Bloomington Resistance March, Sat., January 20 at 12:30 p.m.
This event is for those in Bloomington and surrounding areas who cannot make it to Indy (or Chicago, or Las Vegas!) for the Women's March "Power to the Polls" event. Come express solidarity with progressive women who are mobilizing for protest and change across the country. Gather on the Courthouse Lawn at 12:30 PM, welcome and open megaphone at 1 PM, immediately followed by march around the Courthouse (along the path and lawn around the Courthouse, not the street). Clever signs and t-shirts encouraged.

2018 Annual Science Sermon
Reverend Mary Ann Macklin
Astronomer and writer Carl Sagan wrote, "A religion old or new, that stressed the magnificence of the universe as revealed by modern science, might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by conventional faiths." In her annual Science Sermon, Reverend Macklin will review highlights from 2017 discoveries in the areas of human origins, environment, physics math, astronomy, mind and brain, technology. Per usual, there will be a 7th inning stretch!
Reverend Macklin will be quoting Carl Sagan, so feel free to don a turtleneck and blazer on Sunday, in the spirit of Sagan and science.

This Week in Religious Education:
Creativity and Sophia Lyon Fahs
During the January Intersession, children will be learning about our Unitarian ancestor, Sophia Lyon Fahs. Parents of K-8th students: Find out where to pick up your children after class by checking the list on the nursery window (Room 104).
9:15 am preschoolers will begin and end in Room 103, and will visit the cooking class together this week. The 11:15 am preschool class will hear The Wise People and the elephant in their Spirit Play classroom, Room 105. Kindergarten- eighth graders should gather in Fellowship Hall after the Time for All Ages to join a mixed-age group. Over four weeks, each group will explore the life of Sophia Lyon Fahs through cooking, science, spiritual practice, and history.
"Harry Potter and UU" is on hiatus until February 4th; 6th-8th graders are encouraged to attend service or join the intersession. High School Youth group will gather for potluck lunch at 12:30 pm and will work on their youth-led service.

Parents Upcoming Opportunities to Assist
The Kids with Absent Parents program (KAP) invites you to join us in helping families affected by incarceration. There are opportunities to assist at our events (next one is Sunday, January 28 from
12:30 -3:00) such as meal preparation, set up, clean up and participation with the children, as well as tasks behind the scenes. Please come to our meeting on Monday, January 22

at the following locations: City Hall (Suite 260), Monroe County Public Library, Hillel Foundation, and Indiana University Police Department. The yard signs are free; however donation checks may be made out to Hillel (noting "Bloomington United" in the memo) or online by clicking here.

ur healing thoughts are with Pat Brantlinger, a member of our Board of Directors. On January 8th, Pat slipped on black ice and broke his right ankle. He is currently in Bell Trace rehab center, Room #136. Cards and visitors are welcome. (If he is not in his room, he is probably in rehab down the hall.)

The Possibility of Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education
for 4th & 5th Graders
If you have a child in 4th or 5th grade, please follow the link below to a Doodle Poll to help us decide if there is enough interest for us to run the class this spring. There was not enough interest in the fall. Mandatory parent meeting would be the week of March 25th. Classes would run for 8 weeks, April 1-May 26th. Please complete the doodle poll below to let us know what days your child could attend. If we have at least 8 kids commit to the class, we will go with the day/time that works with the majority. If we cannot get enough kids, we will work to support parents to cover the material at home.

Reimagining Opera for Kids Presents Spirits
Saturday, January 27
On Saturday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. here in our Meeting Room, Reimagining Opera for Kids (ROK) will offer a free performance of Spirits by Tony Plog, followed by community conversation and a panel discussion. The panel discussion will include Reverend Scott McNeill and Rabbi Brian Besser. The 90-minute opera is an exploration of moral integrity in challenging political times.
