Service of Lamentation to Remember Parkland Shootings

In response to the latest school shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Ash Wednesday, Bishop Barry Beisner and Dean Brian Baker are welcoming all to Trinity Cathedral at 7 p.m. March 14 for a Service of Lamentation, one of the actions recommended by the national group, Bishops United Against Gun Violence.

Chris Reynolds, the director of music at St. Martin, Davis, who will be leading the music at the service, says, "We are seeking singers who can lend their voices to make the singing of hymns as rousing as possible. We will warm up at 6:15 p.m. before the service  and sing through the hymns. Please join us, even if you can only appear shortly before the service itself. I would appreciate hearing of your intent to participate via an email to me at  [email protected]."

Another action the bishops recommended is to contact your elected representatives. Two websites that can help you find yours are here (for state) and here (congressional). Your senators' contact information is here.
FROM THE BISHOP SEARCH COMMITTEE
We Are Still Listening...

Another huge thank you goes out to all who have attended the first three listening events. We are so grateful for your honesty.

All feedback received before March 24 will inform our profile: a synthesis of what our diocese is and what we dream of being. The profile will be published later in the spring and will be what potential bishop candidates can view so they have a good idea of who we are and who we are looking for. The profile will be available o nline so anyone (including you!) can read it, and we'll be sure it reaches far and wide.

Remember that you can help out by holding a parish forum in addition to the scheduled listening events. Parishes are encouraged to be creative and schedule these however it fits best, using these questions as guidelines. If you've held a parish forum or if you plan to, please don't forget to send in your notes to us: [email protected].

Register here for the final listening event on March 10 at St. John's, Roseville.

Incarnation, Santa Rosa, Calls New Rector

The Vestry of the Church of the Incarnation, Santa Rosa, is
pleased to anno unce the a ppointment of the Rev. Dr. Stephen Shaver  as rector. This appointment is the successful culmination of the prayerful, engaging, spirit-filled work of many in the parish who served on the Profile Committee, Applicant Review Committee and Vestry. This was a yearlong process which attracted many excellent applicants from across the country.

Incarnation sought a thoughtful preacher whose inspirational sermons touch hearts, connect with our lives and challenge us; a gentle teacher of insightful theology who is well read and curious, with a sense of humor.

"Stephen certainly embodies these attributes and we are very excited about the bright future of Incarnation," the vestry wrote in announcing the call. He and his family will arrive in early summer.

From a letter Rev. Stephen wrote to the congregation:

"I am delighted and humbled to be called as your next rector. ...  Incarnation is a special place. Your jewel of a building stands at the heart of Santa Rosa and Sonoma County, and your beautiful, transcendent worship stands at the heart of your life together. That worship doesn't stay inside the building, though: it spills over outside the walls to bless the entire community around you. ... I'm looking forward to the adventures God will send us as we start this new chapter together."

The retreat will include presentations by Maylanne with individual and group activities designed to help us grow in our diaconal service, a session led by the Bishop, and a "Listening Session" for deacons only - an opportunity to make clear what our interests are when calling a new bishop."

Sisters' Transfiguration House Becomes Eureka Rectory

Adapted from the February Christ Church, Eureka, Chronicle  article
By vestry member Jackie Moore

On a stormy Humboldt night, the Rev. Daniel London and his wife
Ashley London Bacchi
arrived Jan. 24 in Eureka at the Transfiguration House, their new home. It is hard to imagine how exhausted they must have been! After packing up all of their belongings and driving five hours, most of which was in the dark and the rain, they arrived in good spirits and ready to face the next day of unpacking and settling in. I am sure they have been very busy ever since making the Transfiguration House their home.

As most of you know, Christ Church purchased the Transfiguration House last year from the Sisters of the Transfiguration to be used as a rectory. Many hours were spent navigating the paperwork, coordinating inspections, getting bids and all the other details it takes to buy a piece of real estate. Once the sale was final, these same people and the vestry began the task of deciding what projects to complete before we welcomed our new rector.

Some of the projects that were completed before Father Daniel and Ashley moved in include new carpet in the upstairs hallway, three bedrooms and bonus room, removal of wallpaper and fresh paint in the front entry, stairwell and upstairs hallway, removal of wallpaper in the front bedroom, installation of hardwood floor in the front room and dining room and refinished existing hardwood to match, a minor plumbing repair in one of the upstairs bathrooms, window cleaning and power washing of the outside of the house and some minor termite repair work that will start soon, weather permitting.

From the upstairs bonus room, which has many windows, you can see all the way to the bay. On a clear and beautiful recent afternoon, I looked out that window and realized just what a treasure the house is to our church and I hope Father Daniel and Ashley enjoy spending time looking out this window and over the community they have come to make their home.
