Travel Channel: 10 Art Exhibits Worth Traveling for in 2018  
   
This popular touring Smithsonian exhibit is entering its final year and is a must for Star Wars fans. In fact, the creative process that went into designing the iconic costumes is just as complex as the universe that George Lucas created. Lucasfilm consulted on the exhibit, where more than 60 costumes are on display, along with detailed sketches and backstories.
 
Catch it at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Fla. through April 1, 2018, and the Detroit Institute of Arts in Michigan from May-September 2018.

Next month, Deputy Mayor Dr. Kanika Tomalin will take over as city administrator as well as being second in charge of the city.
 
Current City Administrator Dr. Gary Cornwell will retire Feb. 9 after nearly 38 years with the city. He served as Human Resources Director prior to being confirmed as city administrator in 2014.

St. Pete Patch: St. Pete Leaders To Unveil Rendering Of First Airline Monument 
   
 City officials will commemorate St. Petersburg as the birthplace of commercial aviation with a monument at the site of country's first airline.
 
The new monument will sit on the site of the first airline's original hangar on the approach to the St. Petersburg Municipal Pier.

St. Pete Patch: Public Forum To Present Designs For 40th Avenue Bridge    
   
Residents will have a chance to peruse architectural plans created by four firms vying for the contract to design the new 40th Avenue Bridge over Smack's Bayou.

The designs will be presented at an open forum Monday, Jan. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the St. Petersburg Water Resources Training Room, 1650 3rd Ave. N., St. Petersburg.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration is a day to celebrate the life and dream of Martin Luther King, Jr.  A day when people of all races, religions, classes, and stations in life put aside their differences and join in a spirit of togetherness. The first MLK Celebration took place in St. Petersburg in 1986, historically beginning in the Gas Plant area. The parade route has changed numerous times over the years but this year, Mayor Kriseman and Mrs. Kriseman, Deputy Mayor Tomalin, and city staff joined the MLK "DREAM BIG" Parade starting on 1st  Avenue South and ending near Tropicana Field.
