EMPRESARIO - MARCH 2019
President's Corner: Building a Culture
John Hernandez

For about 4 years, we've been working hard to build a Chamber that our city would be proud of. From day one, we've tried to portray a place of professionalism, valued resources and a strong sense of community.

To be honest, we were actually building a culture of community and didn't even know it. Although our strategies have changed from time to time, our "culture" of helping, supporting and connecting our community has guided each and every one of our decisions.  This culture has assisted us in bringing value to our members, helping partners and has been key in our growth and visibility.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting and listening to the CEO of Coca Cola Southwest Beverages, Mark Schortman. He shared this great quote and confirmed that we are on the right path.

"Culture eats strategy for breakfast!" - Peter Drucker

Lesson: Do the right thing and great things happen.

Ambassador Spotlight: Magdalena Vallarino

Magdalena Vallarino was born in Bogota, Columbia in 1958 within a very philanthropic and altruistic family. She was raised by her brother and sister after father at the age of 3 and mother at the age of 13. After graduating high school, she attended Universidad De La Salle in Bogota seeking a degree in Biochemistry. She got married in 1981 and moved to California where she had her son and later moved back to Bogota where she had her daughter in 1985.

Recently she has extended Va-Por to include remodeling services (Va-Por Construction) and as of July 2018, Va-Por became MWBE certified. Her goal with this new venture is to continue to give well paid employment opportunities to more people and build affordable housing in Fort Worth.

Open -mindedness  and respect is a family legacy her parents left her and Vallarino's advice comes from this sentiment.  "Money is important, but never more important than the dignity of any person." Learn More
