Colorado PGA Offering Two Separate CPP Courses - Teaching and Coaching Certification and Certification in Golf Operations

The Colorado PGA is offering its Professionals the unique opportunity to complete two of the four PGA Certified Professional Programs in a dynamic group-learning environment. The Certification in Teaching and Coaching and the Certification in Golf Operations will each be offered in two-day (16 hour) classroom formats that will cover all the curriculum within the career path, with the exception of the Revenue Management and Simulation module. 
  • Golf Operations Certification - January 30-31 - Colorado National Golf Club
  • Teaching and Coaching Certification - February 20-21 - Valley Country Club
Registration for these courses is open until January 25. Class size is capped at 20 attendees so s ign up now to reserve your spot.

Growth of the Game Grant Application Available

It is the mission of Colorado's PGA REACH Growth of the Game Grant Program to develop or significantly enhance programs that will attract and retain new golfers.

Those interested in being considered for a Growth of the Game Grant must submit a completed application to Colorado PGA REACH by February 16. A PGA member or apprentice in good standing on behalf of the facility in which the PGA member or apprentice is employed must submit the application.

Eventful 2018 On Tap for Colorado Golf

If you're a fan of variety, of the new and different, you should like what awaits in Colorado golf in 2018.

There's a return of major tour-level tournament golf to the Centennial State for the first time since 2014. There's a joining of forces by two of the biggest golf associations in the state. Colorado will take its turn hosting many of the best girls players in the western United States, Canada and Mexico. And, for the first time in nine years, a new 18-hole course will open in the state.

And those are just the highlights of what the new year will bring for the Colorado golf community.

New CEO Appointed to Lead The First Tee as it Reaches 20-year Milestone

Keith Dawkins, an executive for Viacom's Nickelodeon, will become The First Tee's next CEO, it was announced this week by the World Golf Foundation Board of Directors.

President George W. Bush, The First Tee's Honorary Chairman, welcomed Dawkins to the position while at Liberty National Golf Club alongside The First Tee Chairman Tim Finchem. Dawkins will replace current CEO, Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., who was set to retire at the end of 2017.

Callaway Golf increases Topgolf investment

One of Callaway Golf's investments in recent years has been in Topgolf and it has chosen to increase its total-dollar investment in the company. Ea rly on, Callaway put some money in the driving range-golf entertainment company, and the Texas-based Topgolf has exploded. The company has not only expanded throughout major cities in the United States, but the company is going global, announcing locations in Mexico and the United Arab Emirates as more American cities seek a Topgolf of their own.

KPMG Future Leaders Program Accepting Applications

Colorado PGA has a 3- and a 7-Month Internship Available

The Colorado PGA and the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado couldn't operate the 80+ junior golf events they do each year without the help of their interns. The Colorado PGA is looking for two young people to fill these junior golf internship roles for the 2018 season. If you know of anyone looking for internship experience and feel that they would be a good fit, please share this information with them!

Register Now to Attend the PGA Jr. League Workshops 

The Colorado PGA is offering three PGA Jr. League Workshops for Professionals to learn more about starting a new PGA Jr. League team or to help a current program flourish. All workshops run from 8 a.m. to noon.
  • January 9 - South Suburban Golf Course
  • January 16 - Fort Collins Country Club
  • January 18 - The Country Club of Colorado
Each workshop will be divided into two parts. The first two hours will be geared toward starting a new team with discussions on taking the first step, recruiting players, scheduling matches and many other useful aspects of PGA Jr. League team operations. The second half of the workshop will be diving deeper into operations and sharing best practices with the group. Each 2-hour section is worth 2 MSRs.

PGA Merchandise Show Just Weeks Away

The 65th PGA Merchandise Show being held January 23-26 in Orlando, will welcome some 1,000 top golf companies and brands and more than 40,000 industry professionals from around the world to the industry's annual MAJOR of Golf Business. The PGA Show Demo Day will be held on Tuesday, January 23, at the Orange County National Golf Center. During PGA Show days, January 24-26, at the Orange County Convention Center, PGA Professionals, retailers and industry leaders will uncover the latest trends, source the newest golf merchandise, test the latest equipment, learn proven business best practices, network among peers and move forward the business of the game.

2017 OMEGA PGA Professional and Senior PGA Professional Player of the Year Announced

Rich Berberian Jr. of Hooksett, New Hampshire, and Mike Small of Champaign, Illinois, have won the respective 2017 OMEGA PGA Professional and Senior PGA Professional Player of the Year awards.  The twosome will be honored on Friday, June 15, in conjunction with the 51st PGA Professional Championship at Bayonet Black Horse in Seaside, California.

PGA Offers Thomas Fire Help

The PGA of America formed the Golf Relief and Assistance Fund to help provide relief to individuals in the golf industry who have suffered as a result of a current or future qualified disasters. As a result, golf industry personnel impacted by the Southern California wildfires can now receive aid.

PGA and Colorado PGA Financial Assistance Fund Scholarship Link Live

The PGA Financial Assistance Fund Scholarship application is available on PGA.org. Established in 1986, the program provides college scholarships for children and grandchildren of PGA Members.

This is the same application that is required by the Colorado Section for applicants who wish to apply for the Section Financial Assistance Scholarship.
 
Important dates to remember:
  • March 1, 2018 - Deadline to submit the application.
  • March 19, 2018 - Deadline to have all supporting documents submitted, provided applicant is eligible.
